Good Sunday evening gang. It’s an ugly day wrapping up across the state as the rainstorm settles in. Many areas have picked up a half to one and a half inch of rain since late Saturday and we still have another 1″-3″ to go.
A FLOOD WATCH is now out for many counties…
FLOOD WARNINGS are already up for parts of the Licking, Green and Ohio Rivers and I suspect more warnings over the next few days.
The cold upper level low will move from south to north across the state Monday night into Tuesday and this will cause the rain to mix with and change to snow for some areas. Some backlash light snows and mix will be possible Tuesday night into early Wednesday across much of the region.
The GFS continues to suggest some light accumulations will be possible…
In the year of extremes… parts of the deep south will see snow before parts of the Great Lakes.
Back to the weather of today. We have heavy rain and a big temp gradient setting up and you can track it all…
Rainfall Since Midnight
Current Temps
Enjoy the evening and take care.

I was raised in Texas and rain always swept on through unless it was tropical, and then the skies cleared and it was sunny again. I have a very, very hard time here in Kentucky where rain trains overhead for days and days and the sun disappears for the cold weather months.
This is so yucky, but at least it’s not falling as freezing rain. That is my fear. Can you imagine if we had cold air in place at the lower levels?
Down here in Murray, KY it is 38 degrees with a steady rain. We seem to be right on the edge of the rain/snow line down here. The weather channel has us under the 1-3 inches of snow down here but the models don’t seem to be very consistent about us getting any snow here
Snow flurries mixing in with the rain now
Sure is getting cold…I’m in lex I’m getting a 43 degree reading. But it’s prob wrong
Hi KP, I was raised in Florida where we had rain, then clearing skies and the sun came back out all within hours. I have the same hard time with the lack of sunshine here. I have lived here for quite a while but have never gotten used to it. Can you imagine my dismay when I moved here in November, and woke the next morning to a cold, rainy, damp rain with the sun nowhere in sight. I stayed in bed until noon hoping it would pass over but alas, that was the year we didn’t see the sun but a few days each month for like 3 months in a row! I had a very hard time and wondered what I had gotten myself into! :/
Snow is mixing in with the rain here in Scott county, IN. (about 30 mi North of Louisville).
Anyone notice that it is colder than predicted…in Mt. sterling it is supposed to be 50 degrees and it is already down to 44. If that trend continues, maybe we will get more snow than expected.
yes Ive noticed that and its a sharp cut off to, as of now, Its still 56 here in knox co. and just to my west in McCreary co. its 44 maybe a good 40 miles by a crows fly over…but its kind of interesting..wonder if that colder air will work this far se..getting reports of snow in west tn. as well..crazy weather…
down to 35 in christian co. (hopkinsville area) surely its snowing out there!
Still 54 in Whitley Co. 🙁 Was hoping for and early snow. Could we be talking enough rain to start canceling schools? Thanks CB 🙂
here in western KY temps have dropped rapidly in the past hour were sitting around 35 with rain/snow mix and the snow being more common
How much snow is expected for central Kentucky this week, if any?
I would suspect looking at the radar and checking the temps on ky mesonet and seeing how they vary in range over western ky, from 40-34, that dynamic cooling is taking place within the heavier precipitation . Creating the mix and snow burst, when the heavy moisture moves through temps will rebound upward to create a all rain event tonight
not necessarily.
No mention whatsoever of ANY chance of accumulating snow in Louisville the next few days by AW on Wave-3 just now. Actually, it wasn’t even mentioned that snow was an option of happening at all. Just that the rain would be winding down Tuesday night and head up into Indiana and points north. sigh…
feb 1998 lol, no one saw it coming
IF ANYONE PUTS ANY FAITH AT ALL IN MODELS, THEN THEY DESERVE TO BE DISAPPOINTED. HOW MANY WINTERS HAS THE STATE OF KENTUCKY BEEN THROUGH FOLLOWING MODELS? QUITE A FEW NOW AND I THINK THAT WE CLEARLY SEE THAT MODELS IN THE WEATHER WORLD ARE ABOUT AS USEFUL AS A LAWN MOWER WITH NO BLADES. LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER RAINY KY WINTER!!!
just came in from the NWS for western KY that minor accumulation have occurred and the rain and snow to continue into early morning hourse
Hi Marie,
Nice to hear from somebody who understands! We can be the Southern Sunshine Gals. 🙂
I guess it is harder for us since we are so used to sunshine almost every single day. I have read a bit about SAD and I don’t think I’m quite to that point, but I do try to get outside as much as possible between 10 am and 2 pm. Supposedly even if it’s cloudy, the brain picks up on the light. I don’t think that would work today, though. Rain, rain, rain….
Let’s help each other through another sunless season!! Misery loves company.
The Southern Sunshine Gals it is! 🙂 I have often wondered about SAD also but like you, I think I have been close but not quite there. Certain times are worse than others. We try and make a trip to Florida usually in January or February to soak up some sun each year. That seems to be the worst time of year for me–the holidays are over and we still have the worst of the winter season to come. I do love the change of seasons here, though. We didn’t get that so much in Florida. But summer time is my absolute most favorite time of year! And I do love my shorts and flip flops! 🙂
