Good Monday, everyone. It’s another summer-like day across Kentucky as tempsĀ spike deep into the 80s. This is ahead of a few rounds of showers and storms set to deliver some healthy rains to part of the region tonight and Tuesday.
All in all, we are ending April and starting May on a rather warm and, sometimes, stormy note.
Temps today reach the low and middle 80s across central and eastern Kentucky with the chance for some upper 80s in the east. The west will “only” reach the upper 70s to low 80s as clouds thicken ahead of some afternoon showers and storms.
These storms are along and ahead of a weak front moving toward us from the west. This boundary never quite clears the area as it slows down with a wave of low pressure developing along it. The end result will be increasing showers and storms from southwest to northeast later this evening through much of Tuesday.
Some 1″-2″ rainfall totals are likely to show up for parts of western and central Kentucky. As usual, the models have their differences with where the heavy rain producing thunderstorms show up…
Here are your radars to track the showers and storms across western Kentucky today…
Temps stay warm behind this with upper 70s to middle 80s for Wednesday. Thursday may wind up being the toastiest of the bunch with the chance for a 90 degree temp or two to show up…
That’s ahead of a cold front pushing in with showers and thunderstorms Thursday night into Kentucky Oaks Day Friday. Some lingering stuff may hold on into the start of Kentucky Derby Saturday, especially in the east.
The EURO is a friend of the Derby as it clears the front well before the call to the post…
Temps on Oaks Day may be held in check for areas getting in on the greatest concentration of showers and storms, and the EURO says that includes Churchill Downs…
Temps in the 70s should make for a great 150th running of the Kentucky Derby…
A stronger system may blow in right behind that into the start of next week and this is something the Ensembles have been hinting at for a while. Showers and storms storms are being pushed by a shot of chill showing up on the EURO…
Have a magnificent Monday and take care.
A shot of chill in May is likely insignificant.
Thanks Chris. Hoping for some ” April showers ” tomorrow.
Have a great and safe day everyone !
I guess we are done with Severe weather season for this spring then.
