Good Friday to one and all and Merry Christmas. We’re kicking off the long Christmas weekend and today is going to be a very busy travel day across the state and the country. I have you all set to track the weather you may encounter as you head over the river and through the woods today. I will also talk about the rest of the weekend forecast and peek into next week.
We will see a lot of leftover clouds out there today and there could be a light shower or two hanging around. The GFS shows the threat for a drop or flake…
High temps will range from 40-45 degrees and then drop into the 30s by early evening. That’s when a festive snowflake may mix in. Let’s track today’s weather…
Current Temps
What about the temps for Santa as he makes his rounds Christmas Eve into Christmas Morning?
The threat for any flakes for Sunday is very low right now as the energy that teased us with a Christmas storm hangs back across Texas into early next week. There is a system diving in from the northwest that may clip the north and east with some flurries and that’s me being generous.
With the energy holding back… many of the models now decide to bring it out and develop the storm for Tuesday and Wednesday…

At this point… I’m tired of tracking the silly thing. It’s going to do what it wants to do anyway. haha
I’ll have another update later today. Have a great Friday and be safe if you’re travelling. Take care.

Hope you have a Merry Christmas Chris! Thanks for all your hard work. Looks like no white Christmas this year, but there is still lots of hope for snow this winter!
merry christmas CB and fellow bloggers And happy BDay blog, I believe DEcember 10 2004 was the blogs 7th birthday! I know its sad that i keep track! Oh well 🙂
Thanks Chris for all your hard work….take Christmas off! ‘Cause you’re right– its gonna do what it wants anyway!!
Merry Christmas CB, I pray the Lord fill you & your family’s cup to overflowing on the day of our Lord’s birth. Blessings!
well i gave my XMAS CARD yesterday in thread so lets talk bout
PARTY!!! ok just kjidding cause today song fits me right
by toby keith I AINT AS GOOD AS I ONCE WAS!!!
Do you get the feeling Chris Bailey and all the other local METs are just frustrated beyond belief with the model inaccuracies & the polar jet streams lack of interaction with the sub tropical jet stream? Just think how much snow we have missed out on this month, due to lack of cold air placement. But, hey, we all love puddles & mud this time of year, right? lol…have a great Christmas everyone!
Thank you CB, for all you do, I know the models are frustrating, they just do not know what to do with our current predicament. But that’s ok, keep your head up and a smile on your face, because there is one thing we can say Kentucky weather is un-predictable. So no doubt you will have storms to track before long. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
And a Merry Christmas to one and all out there.
Merry Christmas!!!
Sunny and 51 ! That’s my local forecast from nws in jkl for Christmas day. Oh well I guess we won’t have to worry about heavy coats !!
White Christmas??? Nope just like everyone but Chris was forecasting. It’s ok to be wrong, we all make mistakes but most will admit them, meteorologists won’t. This model says this that model says that. So meteorOlogy is just looking at computers now? We can all do that. Merry Christmas!
Wow! Talk about snow lovers dream! And that’s exactly what it is. The 06z run of the gfs sure showed some winter love from new yrs eve on. But I’m sure it was just smokin wacky weed!!
Chris didn’t forecast it, he showed what the models were saying. He said there was a chance from what the models were saying, he never gave a forecast saying it was going to be a White Christmas. Now why don’t you go start your own weather blog and maybe you can do better.
dude CB NEVER called for a white xmas, he simply said there was a chance just like todd borek, tg, and Bowel movement aka BM 🙂 lmk also said there was a slight chance about 3 days ago. when CB forecasts a snow he typically will go into threat and then alert modes, neither happend this go around.
It was not like Chris winter forecast was an outer, many other mets were prognosticating a colder than normal winter. All the elements have simply not come together. Kind of like a sports team with a lot of talent but has no chemistry.”There is no guarantees in life except for death and taxes”.
well at least the electric companies won’t be gifting us with high bills come Jan with all this warm weather we are having.
most mets misased winter, BAILEY said 40 plus inches of snow he predicted a asrtic cold it not happening but others said same thing.
If it is going to be warm…bring on the sunshine. Cool rainy days…SUCK!
Snow or sunshine.
Merry Christmas, Y’all!!
I grew up in southern Texas and I spent the holiday season sweating in my shorts and tank tops and wondering why all the Christmas specials were full of snow. 🙂
I thought it always snowed everywhere at Christmas. Well, everywhere but Houston.
My boss in Austin had a Christmas party and she wanted to do hot wassail, a crackling fire, and other traditional things. I wore a sundress since it was an 85 degree day. The fire made it even more sweltering. At least here, it’s a bit chilly so wearing a Christmas sweater won’t give me heatstroke. 🙂
I second that. Every met. in the Ohio Valley was forcating colder temps with several snow chances. With above average snow fall for the winter. Well the precep. has been there and will be there it is just a matter of the cold dropping in at the right time.
According to the pro’s we may see stratosphere warming called SSW…If this happens it splits the Vortex thats been causing all the winter time blues…Most are saying middle Jan. we should see Blocking…With all that frigid air up north its bound to break loose sometimes…Don’t give up on winter yet Folks,Parts of Jan,Feb,March could be a fun ride…
It looks like most of the cold will dislodge toward the Asia side but may provide for a few weeks of actual winter after the 15th of Jan. FEB with la-ninas is almost always very warm.
you mean like the Miami Heat LOL
Anyone want to wager that we go snowless this Winter? I’m betting that most in Kentucky will be less than 2″ this Winter.
Any amount you want to wager! I’ll take that bet.
Allways thought La-nina’s are usually dry…If this is the case this isn’t your typical la-nina…Lot of area’s are rain soaked with near record rainfall…Does this usually happen with a La-nina?
And my gut has been thinking a big storm will come somewhere around these parts (or maybe WE’LL get lucky this time—it is OUR turn after all….I mean central Kentucky. Lexington to Somerset to Bowling Green, and in that general area…
That’s what I’m waiting for. The bottom to drop out. Cuz it’s a trap door you know….haha
I mean to add that my gut thinks it would strike in mid January….
