Good Sunday, everyone. Rounds of heavy rain are targeting the region today and these rains will hang tough for the next several days. More of a wintry pattern then develops for the second half of the week into next weekend as a cold setup takes shape.
Gusty showers are on the move today and there’s even the chance for a rumble of thunder. This is from the first system zipping through the region with two more coming right behind it.
The next one moves in with heavy rain producing showers and some thunder Monday into Monday night. Rainfall numbers from the current system and the Monday system are impressive with a few spots potentially pushing 2″-3″.
Check out the rainfall totals from the models through Tuesday morning…
Again, those numbers are just through Monday night.
The system coming behind that Tuesday night and Wednesday can put down another inch or so of rain before colder winds finally shut down the rain train. There’s still the chance for that rain system to end as a little bit of light snow Wednesday night and early Thursday, but the odds for anything bigger continue to decrease.
A clipper then works into the region by Friday and has some very cold air coming in behind it. The trend on some of the models is to blow this up into a bigger system into the eastern US with light snow and snow showers moving into our region.
The GFS is going in this direction…
This run of the GFS has found the arctic cold again and shows temps well below normal next weekend into the start of Christmas week…
Believe it or not, we are seeing the EURO now joining in on what the GFS is cooking up…
It also has the arctic cold…
The Canadian has swapped places with the GFS and EURO and is now in the progressive camp with both of our systems. This setup would only lead to a few weekend snow showers…
With the more progressive nature of the setup, the core of the coldest air is farther east but it sill brings us some really cold air…
The EURO AI doesn’t show precipitation types, but it has a similar looking setup to the GFS for next weekend…
Looking toward Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, there’s another system the models are beginning to think could bring some of the white stuff in here. The GFS is now among those models…
Looking even farther down the road toward the close of 2024 and the first few weeks of January, the EURO Weeklies go all in on a very cold and wintry pattern developing across much of the country…
I will have two updates later today. Until then, here are your tracking tools for the day…
Make it a great Sunday and take care.
I may have jinxed the snow (probably not). Yesterday was beautiful so I was winterizing mowers, pressure washer, other small engines. Unearthed the snowblower, got it started and ready for the season.
That’s what we did last year. We have to move everything and rearrange for the seasons so we got the snow blower into position, then nothing. I won’t complain if we jinx it again.
The only thing I have is a Snow shovel and my Doctor said ” throw it away ! “
