Good Thursday, everybody. Old Man Winter is back in the Bluegrass State with cold winds and a few flurries out there today. This is just ahead of a light snow maker that rolls in Friday and takes us into early Saturday.

Temps out there today are generally in the 30s with clouds lingering. We should even see a few flurries flying around early in the day.

Our clipper diving in Friday and Friday night continues to track a little farther south as we get closer. That means a better swath of light snows showing up across, especially central and eastern Kentucky, Snow showers may be fairly common behind that on a northwest wind Friday night and Saturday morning.

You can see all this, including the spin from the low, showing up on the future radar from the Hi Res NAM. This animation goes from Friday morning through 7am Saturday…

This is what the Canadian Models have been saying all along…

Short Range Canadian

Canadian

Once again, the GFS caves at the last minute and now is pretty much in line with what the Canadian has been showing all along…

The GFS has now done this with every snow system (5) of the past month.

With all this in mind, here’s the First Call For Snowfall…

There’s the chance this system overachieves in some areas, and we need to watch the trends on the models today and tonight.

Speaking of the models, they all have a light snowfall but have the usual disagreements on exactly how much and where it falls. Here’s a look at what they’re now showing…

There’s even the chance for some festive flakes to fly all the way through early Sunday across the eastern half of the state as that strong northwest flow continues.

Wind chills from Friday through Sunday can dip into the teens at times.

The setup for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day looks to feature some light rain…

Temps do rebound behind that system, but we are seeing the change back to colder happening a little quicker on some of the operational models. Don’t take this verbatim by any means, but the GFS is beginning to see what the EURO Ensembles and Weeklies have been seeing as we end the year and start 2025…

BTW, the EURO Weeklies continue to be all in on an very cold and wintry first half of January…

I’ll have your usual updates later today so check back. Make it a great Thursday and take care.
