Good afternoon, everyone. High winds continue to blast the Bluegrass State as a potent low pressure sweeps through. This is ahead of a big pattern change that will lead much of the country into a harsh winter weather pattern for much of January.
Winds are gusting to near 60mph or a little higher this afternoon across parts of central and eastern Kentucky. A few lingering showers continue to spin in behind the departing low pressure and these will be with us through tonight and early Monday.
Here are your windy tracking tools…
The system coming in for New Year’s Eve is another wind and rain maker with colder air crashing in behind it to start the New Year. That colder air will likely spawn a few flurries and snow showers for the first day of 2025 and the NAM is showing this well…
The system coming in behind it Thursday night and Friday will likely bring a swath of light accumulating snows, but we still have some model spread on this.
The Canadian is the snowiest and keeps light snow going into Saturday…
The signal for the next storm is still there right behind it, but the Canadian is a bit south with this run…
The EURO went from a storm cutting to the Great Lakes to a low rolling across the northern Gulf Coast States…
The GFS went from a low to our south to a low moving right on top of us…
I told you we will see some wild swings and that’s going to continue for the next several days. I can tell you the system next weekend into early the following week may be a Threat storm and should have a few more behind it as bitterly cold air controls our weather.
I’ll throw you another update later this evening, so check back. Make it a good one and take care.
what surprises me is what happened to the heavy rain? I just looked at the mesonet and only 0.16 fell
