Good evening, everyone. I wanted to drop by for a quick update on how things are looking for our region. A crippling snowstorm and ice storm is likely across our region Sunday and into Monday. If you haven’t taken all necessary precautions now.
A Winter Storm Warning is out for many with the Ice Storm Warning out west. Southern Kentucky is under a Winter Weather Advisory, but don’t let your guard down in these areas…
Here’s the updating map showing the latest…
Here’s my latest call for ice and snow…
The area with the greatest concern for an ice storm…
Some headlines to know…
The front end snows developing Sunday and lifting from southwest to northeast will be a big issue. Snowfall rates of 1″-2″ will show up with this band before the slow transition to sleet and freezing rain takes place.
Significant amounts of ice may cause power outages by Sunday night and early Monday. The ice then goes over to moderate to heavy snow on Monday as the upper low swings through here.
Winds during this storm will also be a major player with gusts of 30-35mph possible. Whiteout conditions may develop for some.
I’ll be on WKYT-TV with the latest at 6pm and then I’ll drop by for another update this evening.
Take care.
Thanks for the update Chris. Very very well detailed blog. Great job keeping us informed. Hoping everyone is prepared for a long spell without electricity ? I hope I am ???
Take Care and be Safe Everyone !
Wow..NWS Jackson has Perry co with just 1/10 of ice Sunday day then another 1/10 Sunday evening with temperatures rising 42 degrees by 4am early Monday morning..Sure is a lot different than what Chris maps showing as far as ice accumulation..
Also just a little over 1 inch of snow..Thing’s that make you say ahhh…
Another nothing-burger of a winter storm in the works for south central Kentucky, and I also think that the ice forecast for Warren County is overdone. I’d really be surprised if we see more than 0.1 of an inch of ice in BG.
