Temps today add to the departures as we run well below normal with highs in the 20s. Gusty winds will make it feel even colder as some early day flurries and snow showers fly across the east. Skies slowly become partly sunny from southwest to northeast through the day.
This sets us up for milder temps this weekend with upper 30s to low 40s in the north and the 40s in the south. That means we will likely see a lot of snow melting. Drip, drip, drip.
Temps spike early next week but the trend is colder as we head into the middle and end of the week as a deep trough digs into the east. This may even bring some flakes in here by Wednesday or Thursday. That will be followed up by a storm system that may move right on top of us to start February.
Here’s the Canadian…
The GFS is also seeing this colder blast coming later next week…
The EURO Weeklies are pointing toward the week or so just after Groundhog Day for another shot of cold for our region and much of the country. The model is growing colder as we get closer. Here’s the 7 day average from February 4-11…
It’s also seeing snow chances during this time and even sees the chances pretty far south…
This is likely to be a very active month of February.
I’ll update things later today. Until then, here are your flake trackers for the leftover action in the east…
Make it a fantastic Friday and take care.
We now come out of the deep freeze. Good… Love winter but this stretch has been a long one… So many different types of crazy weather can happen in Feb/March… I don’t know about any of you, but this January has CRAWLED by… to the point I almost feel like it should be the end of Feb…
That is all
Mark, this month has definitely crawled by, probably because we never had a break in the cold, what some refer to as the “January thaw”. In my experience, February is usually the longest month, but I think that it will seem to fly by, because severe weather season is likely to make an early appearance, probably mid-month.
I’ve seen Winter months that were A Lot Colder. Back in the 1960’s, late 1970’s and 80’s, there was low temperatures in the minus teens ( 15 to 25 below ) with Lots of Wind. Snows were much Heavier and occured more frequently, maintaining a deep Snowpack throughout the Winter months. Will see how Feburary 2025 pans out in the way of Cold and Snow ???
I can’t believe that I misspelled February. Every since I had the two strokes a couple of years ago, my health and memory has been going down hill.
Winter is garbage and the EURO weeklies will be wrong.

Schroeder, you hit the nail. This winter hasn’t touch what we experience back then.
