Winter Storm THREAT Continues Tuesday Night-Thursday

Good afternoon, everyone. Our incredibly severe weekend of weather continues with major flooding and areas of snow showers and squalls. This is ahead of a harsh week of weather that includes a Winter Storm THREAT Tuesday night through Thursday.

Major flooding issues continue across much of Kentucky, especially along major creeks and rivers. Those rivers will continue to rise through the next few days, leading to more misery and heartache for thousands of Kentuckians. Our hearts and prayers go out to those impacted.

A few to several inches of snow also fell across the state today and was accompanied by winds gusting to 40mph. The snows created all kinds of travel issues as will snow showers and squalls developing this afternoon and evening.

These will bring reduced visibility and can drop local 1″ snowfall totals. These will also cover roads quickly, especially with frigid temps causing all the remaining water to ice up.

Here’s a look at the current warnings, watches and advisories…

In terms of the Winter Storm THREAT Tuesday night through Thursday, several inches of snow will be possible for the entire state. I’m not ready for a First Call map as I think there’s still some wiggle left with this system. That said, I’ve come up with a map showing the risk for 4″ or more of snow…

The ceiling with this is double digits while the floor is 2″ or 3″.  I’m just now beginning to focus in on this system as the past few days have been a rough one us all and on a personal level for yours truly.

The EURO and GFS both show this system well…

Another update comes your way later today. Until then, I have your tracking tools including our Kentucky Weather Cams to watch the wild weather across entire region…

Enjoy the rest of the day and take care.

I think we got 2.5 to 3 inches here at my place in Lexington. I was so surprised to see what looks like a couple of inches of snow… I went to bed really late and got up late… so missed the snow when it actually fell.

    CRAZY weather

Sorry for all of the ppl who got flooding and were devastated…

it’s so weird winter usually goes by FAST…but this winter has CRAWLED by… Just like last summer did… It’s almost like time has slowed down or something when it’s supposed to speed up as you get older… In the past time did go by so fast…but the past year or so for me… it’s going to slow… Example: I feel like we’ve been in Feb for 2 months

  2. It Rained All Day

I’ve been walking my dog all winter around lakes Fontaine and Hickman, and the causeway between. We’ve seen every kind of weather and Chris has been right every time. Sideways snow today in Lexington, and my son had a scary airplane landing in all that wind! One more week of this, I hope! Chris, I hope your pet is getter better now- thanks for helping us navigate all winter long!
