Good Sunday, everyone. Much better weather blows in today but this isn’t going to last very long as storms are brewing for Kentucky Derby Week. As a matter of fact, some of these storms may be strong or severe with the potential for another round of spring chill to follow.

Temps today are mainly in the 60s with a 70 in the west and far south as skies stay partly sunny.

Temps surge into the upper 70s to middle 80s on Monday as southwest winds kick in. Skies stay partly sunny with just the slightest chance for a shower or thunderstorm going up.

Rounds of showers and storms then kick in starting Tuesday and the potential is there for strong to severe storms. The Storm Prediction Center is highlighting the severe storms threat for much of our region…

These storms are along and ahead of a cold front dropping in and slowing down right on top of us. That keeps more in the way of showers and storms rolling into the middle of the week on Wednesday. Check out all the lightning showing up on the EURO animation starting Tuesday morning and ending Wednesday evening…

Damaging winds and large hail are the main players with these storms, but there is also a low-end tornado risk.

As the front moves in and stalls, low pressure develops along it and moves through Thursday into Friday. That brings more in the way of showers and storms, but the models are still trying to clear all this out by Kentucky Derby Saturday.

Here’s the GFS from Tuesday Derby Day…

MUCH below normal temps push in behind this system for Kentucky Derby Weekend. It’s never good when the Barney colors show up…

If skies clear Saturday night, frost is very possible. Some of the recent runs of the GFS are actually putting the freezing mark within range…

The models have also been pointing toward this colder than normal pattern hanging strong into the week following the Derby and the GFS is pretty ugly with this possibility…

As you guys know, there are two big things I hate when it comes to weather… Cold weather in spring and warm weather around Christmas.

Make it a great Sunday and take care.
