Good Monday, everyone. We have a fairly strong early Summer cold front sweeping across the Commonwealth. This is bringing a line of booming thunderstorms along for the ride with some absolutely awesome weather coming in behind it.

A broken line of showers and storms sweeps into the state this morning and will intensify as it moves eastward. The threat for a few severe storms increases as the storms get into the eastern half of the state and this is where the Storm Prediction Center has the Slight Risk for severe storms today…

Once again, the tornado risk is really low…

These storms have a better chance to produce local wind damage than anything else…

The large hail threat is there, but rather limited…

Temps today are in the 70s as gusty winds crank along and behind our front. These winds bring drier air in here as our temps stay VERY pleasant through the week. Lows hit the 50s for the next few mornings with highs in the 70s through Wednesday.

Look at how far below normal the numbers are from today through Thursday morning…

The setup turns stormy as temps start to get back to normal late this week into the weekend. The models are keeping a rather stormy look going right on into the third week of June…

GFS

EURO

The GFS has another surge of below normal numbers getting in here toward the end of all that…

Looking farther down the road, the GFS Extended is echoing the thoughts of the EURO weeklies I’ve been showing recently. It shows below normal temps and above normal rains through July 11th…

This isn’t a pattern prone for any kind of sustained true summertime heat in our part of the world. Combine that with a wet ground with green, lush vegetation, and you have the makings of a normal to below normal temperature summer.

In the days ahead, we will look at the rest of summer and even take a sneak peek into the fall and winter months.

I’ll have the latest on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm today. As always, I leave you with your complete storm tracking tools of the day…
