Good Monday, everyone. Steamy temps and scattered storms continue to control the weather to start the week, but MUCH cooler changes are blowing in to end July and begin August. This looks to be a prolonged period of below normal temps.

Let’s start with today’s weather and roll forward. Highs range from the middle 80s for those with some showers and storms to the low 90s for those with more sun. Humidity levels are still sky high, making it feel much toastier than the actual thermometer.

Any storm that goes up today will be loaded with lightning and torrential rains. This may lead to hit and run high water issues.

A couple of the storms may be strong or locally severe. Here’s the Storm Prediction Center’s Severe Weather Outlook for today…

Temps on Tuesday and Wednesday may very well be the hottest of the bunch with 90-95 temps and a heat index going above and beyond 100 for most of the state. Still, any shower or thunderstorm going up can help the cause in some areas.

The threat for showers and storms really increases Wednesday night and Thursday as a glorious cold front sweeps into the state. This animation from the GFS starts Tuesday afternoon and goes through the first day of August on Friday…

Temps behind this front look pretty darn awesome as the numbers go well below normal. This animation shows how far below normal at different times from Thursday through Sunday…

The models continue to point toward a much more active pattern through the first week of the month and into week two…

The GFS continues to keep the pattern much cooler than normal during this time…

This would certainly be a pleasant start to August for much of the country…

Bring. It. On.

I’m going to focus on the fall and winter in upcoming posts as this is the time of year I start looking over the data to get a preliminary idea on how things are looking.

As usual, I have you all set to do some tracking to start the week…
