Good Sunday to one and all. Our weekend has been another winner in the world of weather. Many areas hit 32 or below for the first time this season, but afternoon sunshine and mild temps made up for the frosty chill. We are heading into the last week of October and the weather pattern is going to get cranking once again.
It’s a pattern that can bring some early season fun and games to parts of our region. Will that include your backyard? Time will tell… but the pattern looks an awful lot like winter. More on all that in a bit.
Today will start out with another frosty morning with readings near the freezing mark. Highs later today will rebound into the 60s with a 70 out west.
Morning Lows
Current Temps
Some clouds will increase later today ahead of a weak front that moves just to our north tonight and Monday. I do expect this to have enough juice to spit out a few showers with the best chance in the north and east.
Highs Monday will again range from the 60s east to the low 70s in the west.
Those 70s will then overspread the entire region on Tuesday as a mild southwesterly wind develops. This is ahead of a storm system that takes us back into a pattern straight out of winter. This has been the common theme of the fall as big troughs dig into the Ohio Valley allowing cold air from Canada to work in from the northwest.
The air later this week is the even colder than the air we had with the storm a few days ago and has a better chance to produce some wintry weather for some. Look at the setup on the European Model…
Let’s take a stab at how this may play out…
– A strong cold front moves in later Wednesday with showers and thunderstorms increasing across the region.
– This front swings through into early Thursday with widespread rains as, at least, one wave of low pressure develops along the boundary.
– This looks like a heavy rain maker with many picking up more than an inch of water.
– MUCH colder air works in from northwest to southeast late Wednesday into Thursday. One of these waves of low pressure should strengthen just to our east into the mid atlantic states late Thursday and Friday. This will help pull in colder air from the north.
– I do expect this system to have a swath of mix rain and snow or a stripe of wet snow on the far northern and western edges. Does that edge set up around here? It’s too early to tell… but we are in the game.
– With a deep trough across the region… we will need to watch for something weak trying to dive in from the northwest over the weekend.
Again, that is a early peek at how things look right now. I would not be surprised at all if this thing cuts off across the region. That has been the trend of the fall. Either way… it’s another winter looking pattern.
Have a great Sunday and take care.

going just by the european model this trough coming next week seems not only deeper but much wider, which hopefully means some staying power. heck of a temp gradient going to setup again across the area thrusday, looks like mo into central ohio has best chance at any flakes from what i can see
Gotta love the pattern we are in right now..If it stays this way for the winter months the ohio valley, tenn valley should see some decent amounts of snow…But as they say IF is a big word…
If we get snow in OCT im going to do back flips off the porch. I seriously doubt I see flakes in the Ville though.
Yea, but lets enjoy the thought of it being possible until we have reason to think otherwise
anyone want to take a guess a first accumulating snow? I’ll go with Nov 12th.
where are you at in ohio ohiospin? my guess is nov 25th, anything before is way aganist climate norms.
November 25th is Black Friday. That would sure make things interesting for all those shoppers. Glad I am not one of them lol. Can’t wait till the first snow..
Back into the 70s again.. maybe pushing 80 by Tuesday. I love how we’ve had 4 consecutive sunny weekends this month and overall, our temps have been awesome! This is why October is my favorite month!
i will have to say october is pretty much the best when it comes to weather in the ohvlly. winter for those who hate snow is too snowy and isnt snowy enough for those that love snow. now add to that all the 35 degree and drizzly gray days we have to go through and suddenly october is perfect! i am a big winter weather fan but as far as this area of the country goes fall is the nicest time.
