Good Thursday everyone. It’s a busy weather day across the commonwealth as we track a strong cold front across the state. Showers and thunderstorms are likely for many today as we await a shot of some cool and chilly air to end the week. There is also this potential winter looking pattern of next week to talk about. Things are getting busy for this time of year and I am a happy camper.
Let’s start things out with what’s going on today. Showers and some rumbles of thunder will work from west to east with some locally heavy rains. Winds will begin to gust up as our cold front enter the picture this afternoon into the evening. Highs today should generally stay in the 60s with a shot at 70 in the east as the rain arrives a bit later in the day.
We have you set to track the action…
The rains will slowly taper off overnight across much of central and western Kentucky. Leftover showers should be around through, at least, the first half of Friday for the north and east especially. Winds are going to be very gusty and may approach 25-30mph at times. Highs will be in the upper 50s to low 60s for most of central and eastern Ky with mid 60s in the far west.
Our weekend weather looks awesome! Highs on Saturday will range from the low and mid 60s east to low 70s west. Everyone should see some low 70s for Sunday as a few high clouds stream in here.
This is where things begin to change. A powerful push of cold air will be diving southward out of Canada into the central part of the country on Monday. Low pressure will form and head into the Great Lakes by Tuesday and will drag a cold front through here. Showers and gusty winds will accompany this boundary.
This front should then slow down across the Appalachian Mountains and allow for a secondary low pressure to form and ride northward. This could throw some moisture back into our region for Wednesday. Temps during this time will crash as this setup is straight out of one you would see in the winter.
The European Model is really gung ho on this…
That is a nice looking trough digging into the Ohio Valley. We shall see how it plays out… but I can’t stress enough how this can only be a sign of a fun winter ahead.
Look for another update later today. Have a great Thursday and take care.

All I want are 2 snow days….preferable on either side of a weekend. Only 2 though…. no more.
1 accuweather weatherman is saying that some of the models for late next week maybe showing signs of possibly some snow for the far eastern ky through eastern ohio up to new york because of the trough digging in with enough cold air in place, me personally i am very skeptical at this point about snow right now for us, but i have seen stranger things happen. I do think we will have a few good snow storms this winter and maybe an ice storm late in the season (which would be bad by the way) again im only saying what i am thinking, im pretty sure other people have their own opinion, hopefully chris baily can shed some light since he is the best at answering winter weather in this state.
I am ready for winter fun!!
