Good Friday everyone. We can now officially declare the heat wave over!! We have had a nice run of 90s across the state this week and all of that is coming to a booming end today with showers and thunderstorms pushing through ahead of a cold front. This is the beginning of an overall pattern change that will take us through next week. It’s a change that will bring normal temps and above normal rains to the area.
Today will feature rounds of showers and thunderstorms that will carry us into the overnight hours. We now have a lot of moisture available for these storms to work upon so heavy rains will be a good bet. This could be enough to cause… believe it or not… some local flash flooding issues.
You can track all of today’s storms here…
Temps today will me MUCH cooler than in recent days. Highs will reach the upper 70s and lower 80s today… but the humidity levels will be sky high giving us a tropical feel.
Showers and storms will linger into the morning hours Saturday before clearing out by midday. A mix of sun and clouds will then be with us into the afternoon hours as highs reach the 80-85 degree range. Sunday looks great as well with sunny skies and low to mid 80s for highs. Much better!!
The overall pattern into next week looks to feature normal summer temps, high humidity levels with showers and thunderstorms a good bet. A cold front will move toward the area later Monday as storms increase by later in the afternoon and evening. This should set us up with a wet period that would carry us into the middle of the week if not longer as the front stalls out across the region. The GFS is in la la land as it has convective feedback issues. The European Model is very wet around here during this time and has been for several runs in a row and is the way to go. As a matte of fact… from today through next weekend… the European Model shows several inches of rain falling across the entire area.
Ok… that is all I have for now. I will have updates today on the chance for some strong storms and heavy rains as needed so make sure you check back. Have a great day and take care.
I am wondering right now how the rest of the sumer looks? I really would prefer seasonal cause this heat sucks and I can’t take it.
Jake
So the HIGH pressure kept the front sitting in the plains for DAYS…..Now it wants to come through here like a banshee tomorrow, possibly bringing the most probable convection to the southern most outlook area……….UGHHH!!!!! I hope we get some good rain tomorrow or I will be PI##ed!
I woke up to rain hitting the windows and roof. I came to my front door and opened it to see and smell the rain. 🙂

Wow!, this was a real quality post. In theory I’d like to write like this too – taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I keep putting it off and never seem to get something done.
Wonderful ! ! Thanks for doing all the research for this.
