Light Snow Takes Over

Good afternoon, folks. Light snow is the name of the weather game for the rest of the day into tonight as our upper low swings across the bluegrass state. This should put down light accumulations along the way and create slick spots on area roads.

That band of snow will increase as it works into central and eastern Kentucky through early evening. Accumulations should range from a half inch up to 2″ on a few spots. Here are a few of the model forecasts through tonight…

Hi Res NAM

With temps dropping below freezing, slick spots will likely develop across the region. Keep that in mind if you’re going to be travelling from this evening through Friday morning. This has the makings of a small event that can have a much bigger impact on travel.

Don’t forget that tonight is my winter forecast on WKYT-TV at 6pm. If you are out of the area and cant watch: https://www.wkyt.com/livestream

I leave you with your tracking tools for the afternoon…

Winter Weather Continues Today

Good Thursday, folks. Our winter storm continues to push across the region, bringing an icy mix early this morning, with rain to snow taking over after that. As the upper level low moves through, we need to be on guard for snow that can overachieve during the afternoon and evening.

Significant icing issues start the day across parts of central and northern Kentucky. Power outages have been common, with several trees down.

The transition to rain this morning does not have a long shelf life as cold air and wet snow increases from west to east…

In terms of afternoon and evening snows, some areas may pick up an inch or two of slushy accumulations. The NAM fam is picking up on it…

The European has a similar look…

The snow will finally taper off later tonight, but slick travel may develop with temps hitting the upper 20s by Friday morning.

I will have updates later today, so check back. Until then, I have you all set to track the progress of the morning snow line…
