Good evening, everybody. I wanted to drop by for a quick update on the pattern for next week as winter returns to much of the country.
Nothing has really changed from my previous update as we may be seeing a series of systems dropping in from the northwest from Monday through Wednesday. Each of those would bring bands of snows and snow showers with gusty winds and colder air.
For fun, the GFS is showing the possibility of 3 days worth of snow adding up for some areas…
Don’t get married to that map… I’m just showing it to illustrate how 3 days worth of systems can add up if they actually happen.
Bitterly cold air pushes in with the snow rounds…
Another arctic outbreak is likely to follow that up by next weekend. If the full brunt of the wicked cold stays just to our north like the GFS says…
That opens the door for the southern branch of the jet stream to send a possible storm toward the east…
We will see how all of this evolves, but the next few weeks have a lot of potential around here and for much of the country.
I’ll see you back here forĀ a full update tonight. Enjoy the evening and take care.
Thanks Chris. Appreciate all that you do
It says Thursday evening talk…..did I sleep through a whole day?? Lol
Mon-Wed just looks like three ankle biters in a row to me, possibly even a miss. My kids definitely won’t have snow days. Ho hum. Maybe that distant one will work out. We really want to try out our new sleds. Hope we didn’t jinx the snow. Thanks Mr Bailey.
Ankle biters still yield snow days…hopefully the small snow and wind events will invite another big one. I’d be ok with another foot of snow! Wasnt this up coming patern persistent a year or two ago with the almost daily 1 inch of snow for several days in a row?
About that post-weekend storm system: gah. I hope we stay on the blue side of that mess. Yuck.
Clyde u must not been round long, when we get clipper/NORTHWEST FLOW snows its not going miss. its going be round with SQUALLS etc.
You are right rolo. Those are the ones that don’t miss. Don’t really equal out to a whole lot for the majority of the state, but you will get all snow from them.
I hope the storm next weekend works out. You couldn’t ask for a better time frame for it to happen. That is usually when temps start really turning to where you can start getting back out and enjoying some outdoor activities and lets get a snow and move on to warmer days.
I just don’t see it being that significant. And my kids school is a rare one to cancel. Hope I’m wrong!
I hope we don’t get anymore snow us people that love in the mountains have to travel on the extremely bad roads to go to work its not fun putting your life on danger to go to work but you have no choice but to go.
Im kinda rooting for an Early Spring myself….But that’s just me!
Average highs hit the 50s here in southern KY around the middle of the month. Snows after that time rarely stick around too long. Daylight is getting longer too.
