Good evening, gang. I’m dropping by for an update just to say… I have nothing more to add from my earlier thoughts. š Not seeing anything to this point that changes my thinking on the Sunday-Sunday night winter storm. This is a moderate event for our region with a healthy 3″-6″ swath of snow…
If there’s one change I might have to make tonight, it might be to expand that 3″-6″ line a little farther north.
This will be a HIGH impact event on roads. The ground is frozen solid and road temps are below freezing. Travel conditions will go downhill quickly once the snows start flying.
I’m still not sure what to do with Monday and Tuesday. I’ll work on that tonight and Sunday. Gotta take them one at a time… but I’m already picking up on more winter signals through early March. Yes, we get a brief warm up late next week, but winter has a ways to go. Sigh.
I leave you with your tracking toys to tide you over until the late night post. Highlighting the toys is a shameful look from the NWS in Charleston, WV…
See you in a few hours. Take care.
When do you expect snow to start
In Lexington?
First! Woo hoo….! Bring it on!!
Thanks for the update CB!!
“but Iām already picking up on more winter signals through early March”
Don’t sweat it CB, this is just a bad dream.
When I snap my fingers, you will wake up from it and be on your couch with spring training coverage playing on your TV in front of you.
All will be right with the world.
Unfortunately, it’s baseball, so anyone else in the vicinity of the TV will remain fast asleep. š
Thanks Chris. I’ll be looking forward to seeing your thoughts in the morning. So glad you do this for us weather weenies. Appreciate all that you do. By the way, that was a great picture of you and Wynter at the gymnastics meet last night. Have a good night all. Tomorrow is a special day if love. Maybe the snow gods will show us some.
we all know the NWS in Charleston …its the same with every storm …they nowcast more than anyone ….they will add the counties tomorrow sometime …I don’t really think its that big of a deal…ur gonna get the amount of snow ur gonna get regardless of advisories/watches/warnings…..I really don’t think 4,5,6 inches of snow is really a winter storm anyway IMO
Probably isn’t a big deal for Beckley or Nicholas County. But an inch or two in Chas/Hunt area is major news with total team/storm coverage..LOL………BTW I agree with you about the Charleston NWS.
Thank goodness I follow you from WV so I can get an accurate snow forecast! Love your posts…thanks for all the great forecasts!
Alright, no one make fun of me for watching The Weather Channel early this morning. I couldn’t sleep and was channel surfing. When the gave their weather on the 8’s, the extended forecast showed the temp getting up to 59 by next friday. Th then showed a extended map and it showed the temp for friday at 39. Do they not have someone proof read what they are putting on the TV? That’s a 20 degree difference. Let it snow tomorrow and then let’s kick winter of 2015 – 2016 to the curb and get back to warmer weather.
Looks like rain & mix are likely the main players Monday. If CB thought snow had a decent shot, his Spidey snow senses would compel him to mention it.
Chris Bailey is the man unlike that other guy who is always bashing other mets and needs to “disconnect” for the weekend..who disconnects during a winter storm..it’s your JOB
You must be in Louisville.
You have ruined my night CB. Lol. Another year when winter doesn’t want to start, but when it does it won’t leave town when it’s supposed to. Bring Spring.
I’m hoping that tomorrow night at this time we are celebrating all of our snow. Or at least seeing the start of it and celebrating Monday! Here’s to sledding and snow boots! I have to put these things to use or the kids are gonna kill me. They all claim I’ve jinxed the snow by buying them after the last storm. However, I can feel snow in the air and I have a feeling this is going to be an over achiever. Team snow will now begin their snow dance.
So the 11 PM consensus in the Charleston area between the 3 channels is 1-3 inches. Around 2 for the 64 corridor, then rain by about 10am Monday.
Funny how every other Station is giving Bell Co up to 6″ and as much as 8″ but Bailey is only saying 2-4″. Looks like he will bust on our forecast.
I was thinking that too. Especially with the 00z NAM coming into line with the snow totals from the GFS more or less. It seemed that he based his new call for snowfall map basically off the 18z NAM.
To be clear, I meant the positioning of the heaviest snow with the 00z NAM and GFS, not actual snow totals.
Doesn’t make sense. Usually Bailey puts out more than anyone else besides this one.
I could be wrong, but it seems like winter and spring are having a nice game of tug o war!
It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out. I’ll be happy to get at least 6 inches!
I predict that we will get snow. š I am so tired of winter. I hope for an early spring. Thanks Chris for all you do for us.
At my house in LouMetro I have maybe an .25 of an inch. It’s not looking good for totals near the river. According to radar returns, it’ half over for the metro unless more builds to the west.
