Good Monday, folks. We have an interesting looking pattern taking shape as we close the door on March and say hello to April. This pattern has been well telegraphed over the past few weeks, and it looks like a healthy cold shot is on the way for much of the eastern part of the country. Just how cold it gets around here remains to be seen.
Before we get to that, let’s talk about the weather out there this week.
Today is a much colder day with temps only in the 50s for many. Gusty winds will make it feel colder than that.Skies will be mostly cloudy with a small shower chance in the east.
Tuesday looks much better with readings rebounding toward the 60s in most areas.
Winds and temperatures really climb on Wednesday with 70s a possibility. This is ahead of our next storm system that has a pretty potent look. Showers and thunderstorms will increase from west to east Wednesday evening and carry us into Thursday.
Here’s the simulated radar from the NAM through Thursday morning…
Heavy rainfall and some strong storms will be possible through Thursday.
Colder air comes in behind this system for Friday with the potential for sub-freezing temperatures by Saturday morning. You can see this initial push of colder air on the WeatherBELL ensembles…
The bigger push of cold is gathering across Canada and sweeps into the eastern part of the country over the weekend…
Some of the latest runs keep the brutal cold just to our north and northeast. Even there, temps would likely drop into the 20s for a few mornings. I would love to see that cold keep targeting areas farther and farther north, and so would all the green thumbs out there.
A rebound in temps is likely by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. That’s the good news. The bad news is that this pattern is also primed for nasty cutoff lows like this one…
Have a great Monday and take care.
I could be wrong, but the Wednesday thru Thursday system looks like a slow mover. What’s even more depressing about this system is that it seems to be carrying a truck load of saturation. Which makes flash flooding a good possibility. Especially where i live! Here’s to a continuance of more rainy day blues….BLAH!!
WBKO (Bowling Green) reported damage to homes and a destroyed barn yesterday in northern Christian County near Crofton KY. Thankfully, no reported injuries. Tornado Warning in effect at time.
If the NWS sends a survey team to determine if it was a tornado or straight-line winds, that would be done by the Paducah office of NWS.
Are we going to see low temperatures in the teens next week?
Doesn’t look like it the trend since the weekend is to put the true core of the real cold air in the Northeast
Hopefully the models will continue to trend warmer, we don’t need anymore below freezing temps.
Maybe this is one of the big dumps of cold that we need.
It appears that Southern KY may only approach 30 or upper 20s at best which is no big deal when it comes to killing the growing season out. Theses temps will likely cause minor damage but will be about the same as we just went through a few days ago.
I just don’t see 2007 repeating itself this year. Also, 2007’s growing season was ahead of this one with almost complete death to ALL trees. We really don’t have all that much out yet except for the all important fruit trees:{
