Good Monday, folks. We have an interesting looking pattern taking shape as we close the door on March and say hello to April. This pattern has been well telegraphed over the past few weeks, and it looks like a healthy cold shot is on the way for much of the eastern part of the country. Just how cold it gets around here remains to be seen.

Before we get to that, let’s talk about the weather out there this week.

Today is a much colder day with temps only in the 50s for many. Gusty winds will make it feel colder than that.Skies will be mostly cloudy with a small shower chance in the east.

Tuesday looks much better with readings rebounding toward the 60s in most areas.

Winds and temperatures really climb on Wednesday with 70s a possibility. This is ahead of our next storm system that has a pretty potent look. Showers and thunderstorms will increase from west to east Wednesday evening and carry us into Thursday.

Here’s the simulated radar from the NAM through Thursday morning…

NAM

Heavy rainfall and some strong storms will be possible through Thursday.

Colder air comes in behind this system for Friday with the potential for sub-freezing temperatures by Saturday morning. You can see this initial push of colder air on the WeatherBELL ensembles…

Euro 2

The bigger push of cold is gathering across Canada and sweeps into the eastern part of the country over the weekend…

Euro 3

Some of the latest runs keep the brutal cold just to our north and northeast. Even there, temps would likely drop into the 20s for a few mornings. I would love to see that cold keep targeting areas farther and farther north, and so would all the green thumbs out there.

A rebound in temps is likely by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. That’s the good news. The bad news is that this pattern is also primed for nasty cutoff lows like this one…

Have a great Monday and take care.
