Good Thursday, everyone. We have a hot and humid day taking shape across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Temps surge into the 90s, but a breath of better air is on the way for the next few days. From there, the heat and cool set up another fight for next week.
Highs today will hit the low 90s into much of central and eastern Kentucky. Mid and upper 90s will be possible across the west. Ouch!
A stray storm or two will be possible, especially across the east.
Friday’s weather will be influenced by a storm system developing across the Mid-Atlantic states. This means cooler air with the chance for a shower or storm across the east…
High temps really come down…
Humidity levels come down for the weekend with temps generally in the 80s for highs, though 90 is possible across the west.
The heat returns early next week when many of us see thermometers reaching 90 or better by Monday. That’s when we turn our attention to a cold front dropping in from the northwest late Tuesday and Wednesday. This may have a wave of low pressure trying to develop along it, upping the chances for storms…
The air behind that system looks cooler than normal for much of the eastern half of the country. Watch the surge over a 24 hour period…
Have a great Thursday and take care.
First trip to Natural Bridge and the Red River Gorge area from Monday through Wednesday. Camping was really nice Monday night at Whittleton, really cool by morning. Brief light shower overnight Tuesday set us up for a steamy day Wednesday. We had already packed our gear before the downpours set in, but the drive through the Gorge was still worth it. Nada Tunnel…I was not prepared for that one, wishing I had a tape measure to make sure the van would fit, but we did…awesome unless you’re claustrophobic.
…probably spent over 100 nights in the RRG. Glad you enjoyed it!
We didn’t get a drop of rain in this last system. Getting very dry in our part of Rockcastle county.
Berea didn’t with that one or the HOR (huge on radar) system bearing down on the area before that one. It’s just disappeared right before you eyes on screen. We haven’t had enough rain to rinse off a car in about a week. I read what’s supposed to happen, and for many areas it does!, but not here.
The numbers may be high on humidity and dew point but neither of the last two days feels as oppressive as others we’ve had this summer. It’s odd.
I know. There’s so much that goes into thunderstorms. Outflow boundaries, heat, cool, energy in the atmosphere. Yesterday, it was hot, humid, very high dew points, yet the storms heading for my part of Lex kept weakening until they were basically only light rain by the time they got here. In theory, the storm would keep its intensity just with the high dew points and heat, but I guess not?
I think there must be an energy transfer sometimes too – I watched on radar two clusters about 70 miles from each other, as one cluster looked to be weakening, the other cluster would gain strength until the other cluster was almost gone.
OK Chris, You probably haven’t had this one before…
What should it be like in Mongolia over the next six weeks, specifically, Ulaanbaatar ? Our daughter left this morning and will arrive Saturday (long trip – long way away!) for a six week stay…
