Good Friday, folks. Many of us picked up a nice coating of snow to start the day. Never underestimate the power of a northwesterly wind flow in the cold weather season. 🙂 Flurries will continue to fly out there today with temps stuck in the 20s and wind chills in the teens.
Let’s focus on where this pattern goes from here. Our system moving in for Sunday into Monday will continue to focus much of the winter weather just to our north. The leading edge of the precipitation shield can start out as a light mix for many, with the best chance for that being in the north. That shows up well here…
That’s a healthy snowstorm for areas to our north. Road trip? 😉
After that system passes, we quickly turn our attention toward a big time arctic front. That front swings in here late Tuesday into Wednesday. Current indications are for a wave, or waves, or low pressure to develop along this boundary. Here’s how the latest GFS sees it…
The placement of those lows will be the determining factor on snowfall around here.
The air coming behind this system is icebox stuff for much of the country. Check out the forecast lows…
Man… that’s some serious cold showing up for most of America! Check out the wind chill forecast…
Yowza!
I see some of you leaving comments about some guys in other tv markets talking some smack about me or this site? First off… Let me say to them, thanks for reading everything I say and watching me on TV. I must be doing something right for them to hang onto every word I type or say. Right?
I get that it’s probably a tough pill for some of the egos to swallow… having someone in a neighboring market with more of a following in their own city than they have. Perhaps if they devoted more time to actually working instead of “unplugging” when they aren’t at work, they too would have a massive weather following. 😉
And for the record… I could care less what any other TV station or weather blog forecasts. I only care about what I do and working my backside off to keep you guys safe and up to date.
I will have another update for you guys later today. Stay warm out there and take care.
Chris Bailey is the best. Hands down.
Great Job Sir!!
And yes I am also not in “your” market but, you blow the doors off of my market!
Thanks for all you do Chris.
And come on man bring some snow!!!
I read your post in the winter as much as I can. You provide injsight that local mets here in the Columbus area don’t even provide! Keep doing what you’re doing – plus I like to look at the long range snowfall forecast you put out and dream a little 🙂
Chris, I’m in TN and I found your posts two years ago and I’ve been a loyal follower since.!!! I love your enthusiasm for winter weather and it doesn’t hurt that your cute too…just sayin’. I hang onto every word of your forecasting and My family’s heard me say, “that KY weather dude says…..” more times than they should’ve!!! Hahahahaha. Just keep on being the KY weather dude becuz you are ‘dead on’ with your forecasting which is why I listen to only you!!!!
Your always on target and best weather guy Ive ever seem. Regardless if you stay in Ky (i hope) or go to a bigger place Ill be following you. Have a great Hoiday season and dont bother with those jealous guys who cant get it right.
There’s one clown in the Louisville market that absolutely thrives on talking smack. That met’s ego is just absolutely ridiculous and the sly comments are blatantly disrespectful at times. That met will slyly talk down to the public especially if the public don’t take that met’s forecast as gospel.
sounds like he must be from Louisville, haha
That wouldn’t be Marc with a “c” would it?
I quit watching that meteorologist who I think you’re referring to many years ago.
In my opinion he is a drama King.
It could be a normal 75 degree day with clear skies and he would make it out that this day could turn into Armageddon.
I like 95% of the meteorologist in Louisville but this guy is a narcissist.
I wish I knew who you guys are talking about. Can you give us a hint?
This met looks like Eddie Munster. There’s your clue
Haha. Nice clue. Here’s another one, it’s spelled with a C and it a K. He says that all the time referring to his name LOL. He’s such an arrogant tool!!!
I live pretty far from Louisville so I don’t who it is but nobody beats Chris Bailey let me tell ya.
Marc Weinberg on WDRB
Thanks Chris for making this about the weather and the people it effects and not Facebook shares and mud slinging. Have a fantastic Friday everyone! 😉
Only follow your blog and I’m from Charleston, Wv. Mets around here aren’t very good. Chris to the jealous meteorologist in ky and wv.

No words needed. WE are here, reading this blog. That’s who I trust.
Louisville has TG Shuck, and Lexington has Chris Bailey. Between those two, Kentucky is well covered weather wise. No need to even listen to any other TV Met!
You’re the best there is CB! We all know that.
I read your weather blog religiously and I have to say, I’ve known not one other weather ‘person’ who cannot come close to you!!
Thank you so much for all you do!
I`m in Shepherdsville and I read your blogs everyday, during the winter. I know who they are talking about and he “bashes” all others except himself.
I think it was last winter he said the snow was almost over, on his 10:00 weather forecast and we had 6 inches then. We woke up to 15 inches in Shepherdsville. I haven`t paid attention to him since.
By the way, everyone else was forecasting up to a foot or more for us, including you.
I have been following this blog since it began. It’s been so long I’ve forgotten but I think it was a blog on the WKYT website itself when it first started. I’ve been commenting ever since on and off. And even when Chris moved to Huntington, we all pretty much still followed his blog…….
But I do have a question:
What happened to the video blogging you were gonna do? 🙂 🙂
Yep – “Bailey’s Weather Blog” on the WKYT site…. during his first tour of duty in Lexington.
Here in Cincy, none of the weather forecasters have a blog like this. I check in here multiple times a day during the winter, and I know many other people in Cincy do as well. Keep up the good work!
I agree and I am from Cincinnati. Chris, You are the best and have the best blog! Keep up the hard work! I enioy reading the updates everyday at 5am and in the evening and the middday updates too…
Yep been with the blog since day 1..wayyy back then. Even since I’ve moved to east tn. Still an avid Chris Bailey follower!
Chris you are the only met I watch and yours is the only blog I read. You are the best so there is no reason to listen to those guys.
Just have to say that since I was clued into your blog a year or so ago, I can hardly stand to watch any of the local (Louisville) TV guys. What I like about you is the honesty. No trying to be a comedian or overbearing/pandering “star”. Just plain old facts and good insights. Probably the best compliment I can give is that, “I trust you.”
I come from the CT market originally, where Bob Maxon was our “go to” guy. I was hoping to find someone here in KY like that – And did. You’re good at what you do, and I check in here twice per day during the “fun” months 😀 I love reading your weather updates, and trust your forecasts!
I live in North central WV, and even though this a Kentucky blog I check this almost on a daily basis. Your forcast and models are usually are spot on even where I live! Keep up the good work
CB is to weather, what Micheal Jordan was to Basketball. Great work.
CB more like Larry Bird, MJ at times to me was not a team player he had the tendencies to take it seem like 200 shots a game to get his 50+ points. Bird take 20 shots and make 15 of them consistently Bird would also dish the ball to his teammates religiously. MJ not so much. Bottom line Bird could get to 50 points much more efficiently and take way less shots getting there.
And once again the know it all arrogant met in Louisville is running his mouth again. I’m surprised the GM at that station doesn’t politely ask that met to tone it down about 10 notches.
That’s because the GM at that station is just as arrogant as he is…
Yep, and they have been trying to improve their ratings which are at the bottom in the afternoon and evening periods. The 11P news has done quite poorly.
Bailey is the best met, but i still want to marry Lindsay Allen from WDRB. What a babe!
and that’s my point of view. lol
It is well known in the inner circles that the only reason he is still there is because the GM.
Gotta love Bill Lamb. If it was me I would send Weinberg walking promote either Jude Redfield or Jeremy Kappell to chief met. Both of those two mets are very good and there not degrading and they both got positive personalities. It’s a win win.
Reports were someone was not happy when they hired Katie. He might be looking at his replacement if ratings do not go up.
and still going at this hour this borders on psychosis
Your blog is the first news I read when I get up and the last I check before bed. You are the most accurate and hardest working met around. Thanks for all you do!
We follow you in Owensboro because your predictions are more accurate than our locals!!!
You are so much better than Tony in the Huntington WVa Market Area.
Thanks Chris you are the best and that wonderful personality too.
I’m from Cincinnati and we have nothing like this from our meteorologists. Always enjoy the technical explanation! Henry Margusity is looking at a warm-up starting Dec 18. Are you seeing anything like that?
Unfortunately said met has only managed to bring in fellow mets from the same station who are not any better with the smack talk there’s literally full twitter threads on nothing but smack talk instead of talking about THEIR forecasts. pathetic
Rock on bailey! Keep em coming!!
I have read your blog, ever since you was at wsaz, and you are THE best hands down!!! I still go by your forecast, over ANY other channel!! You are spot on! Thank you, keep up the good work! Happy Holidays!!
Rodger finds it interesting how various mets try to “compete” with each other and readers/viewers these days. Years ago, the NWS offices and TV mets who mostly took their forecasts from the NWS was all we had. Now, we have TV stations with 4-5 mets on staff, Facebook/Internet site mets, blogs, etc. And still, with ALL that, a forecast much past 36 hours in the winter is a huge guess lol. Rodger in Dodger
I go to work and talk about your weather blog! Hands down my mothers favorite meteorologist and mine!
Chris, you are the best weatherman ever! I read your blog everyday and you are more accurate than any other weather source. Keep up the good work and keeping your followers well informed.
Chris Love reading your blog. I am in north of Nashville and look forward to reading your weather thoughts everyday.. Please keep it up. Thanks for what you do. Jim
I rely on this blog and Mr. Bailey professionally as a first responder and as a source of reference before I pack into the deep woods year round. His accuracy has saved my hide multiple times. It’s that simple.
Just seeing all the support coming in from people away from Lexington area says it all….I live 150 miles SE of Lexington with weather that is often quite different from northern and central KY and still prefer following this blog hands down as Bailey covers regional weather as well as he does local!!!
Chris I have been with you since way before you started this blog and there’s a reason for that you are the best no matter how hard the others try you will still be the best because you care about the people that follow you you put so much time into this blog and there is no way we all could ever repay you so keep up the good work that you do and know we all will be right here with you maybe these other stations should give you a call and let them take a few pointer from you never mind there is only one Chris bailey hands down
Chris, you are MY weather man and I live in Bowling Green. You are a household name…. My kids know who you are from my daily blog reading ritual… and I look forward to and trust your forecast over any other! Thank you!
I love reading your blogs. Only thing I have against you is that you are a UK fan (I am UofL), lol. Seriously you do your best to provide a detail look at the forecast and why on a daily basis. Keep up the good work!
Ive been with you since your WSAZ days. Your the best. Anyone who messes with Chris Bailey messes with me!
CB, look at it like this the band Kiss has the Kiss army, and we’re all the CB army.
Wow!!! I hear you Chris Bailey. You have a wide range of followers throughout this region. Been following for over 8 years, first thing in the morning, every morning. Winter time is the fun time though. Two and three posts a day. You are the best. Thanks for all you do and there is not a met here in Louisville that comes close to what you have to offfer on a daily basis.
Ha ha. Weinberg has 17,000 Twitter followers and Chris has almost 66,000. I think we know who is the best and most liked MET out there.
and just like that…….. BAM!!
Chris Bailey drops the mic and struts off the green screen……..in his socks!

Chris, I live in southern Indiana, right across the Ohio River from Louisville. I rarely watch the local mets here in the Louisville area anymore, as I follow you daily. I am from the Cincinnati area, originally, and my family and friends who are still up there, follow you, as well. We appreciate all you do to keep us informed, and at times, even safe, when the weather can be dangerous. Thank you!!
I started reading your blogs when you were with WS*Z and I would also watch the weather now I don’t watch WS*Z anymore.
