Good Thursday, folks. To say our current pattern is active would be an understatement. From record highs to thunderstorms to snow showers, this week is bringing it across our part of the world. Believe it or not, things are about to get much more active with the potential for some harsh winter weather setting up.
Colder air slowly funnels into the state today, but this air isn’t terribly cold by any means. Lots of upper 30s and low 40s show up ahead of a late day increase in clouds. Winds are going to be absolutely cranking today and could top 35mph at times.
As our northwesterly wind flow sets up tonight and Friday, snow showers and flurries will develop in central and eastern Kentucky. Some very light accumulations will be possible, especially in the east.
Our New Year’s Weekend will feature a weak system moving on for New Year’s Eve. This will bring a cold rain that can mix with a few flakes at times…
New Year’s Day will feature more showers around as temps hang out in the 40s for highs.
The next storm system on Monday could become a strong thunderstorm producer around here…
High winds and heavy rains will be a good bet with this one. Remember that brief fall drought? Yea, that didn’t last long.
From there, here comes the arctic front! This bad boy arrives on the scene Tuesday night into Wednesday and may have a band of snow along and behind it…
As that arctic air mass gets established for the second half of next week into the following weekend, we have to watch for the southern storm track to get cranking. The European model…
I will update things as usual later today. Make it a good one and take care.
Freezing line moved north in the storm next week 🙁
I expected that to happen. Especially with the met’s on local tv here in the Tri-State predicting high temps next Monday and Tuesday of 65 and 68 degrees.
How far north??
The early week storm for next week was forecast to be rain that’s no surprise at all.
I misread! I was talking about the European at the bottom which he says is for next weekend and I read it as the midweek storm! the Monday storm was always to be a rain maker..
Told you!!any southern storm will be sucked further north than any models can see more than five days out.
Cool update, Chris. Looking forward to tracking some southern storms!
We used to get some good snows coming out of the southwest.
That storm was predicted to be rain…come on people! So little faith and too much blowtorch talk
My bad… I was talking about the European at the bottom which he says is for next weekend and I read it as the midweek storm!
I think these people don’t know what storm there talking about. Gotta read CB fine line yes the Monday storm is gonna be rain then once the artic air arrives Wednesday CB was saying there’s another storm later on the week could possibly be our first snowfall of the season. Just matter of time will tell. I’ll take CB words anyday
My bad… I was talking about the European at the bottom which he says is for next weekend and I read it as the midweek storm!
The set up coming over the second half of January into Feb is the best set up for Kentucky to get the oldskool thumping we so talked about 5-6 years ago. Once Monday’s storm rolls through then all players will be on the table. Rain/Sleet/Snow/Ice depending on the strength of the low rolling along the Southern Storm Track. I like where we are headed.
Wanting some snow- now! Time to star getting excited
