Good afternoon, everyone. Snow is on the way to the bluegrass state as we head into Thursday and early Friday. This will be the first widespread snow of the season, and will likely cause slick travel to develop. Get your snow dance on, kids and teachers! 🙂
I’m riding the current forecast I have out…
Within that area of 1″-3″, some local 4″ amounts may very well show up. The Interstate 64 corridor may be the prime target for that, in addition to the southeast.
The new snow map from the GFS looks like it copy and pasted my snow forecast…
The NAM isn’t too dissimilar, but it always overdoes WAA, leading to too much of a gradient…
I would beef up the south and southeast quite a bit on that model run.
The next system on still tries to swipe southeastern Kentucky with a little more snow later Friday…
That’s the Canadian Model that shows this storm cranking just a bit to far south and east to have a big impact on our weather. Let’s see how the European handles it this afternoon.
Don’t sleep on the arctic cold coming! There’s a chance some areas don’t get out of the teens from Friday through Sunday. Overnight lows will likely drop deep into the single digits…
Can we get a negative number to show up in the traditional cold spots? I’m thinking that’s now a real possibility.
I will have a New Call For Snowfall on WKYT-TV starting at 4. Given the fact I’m on for 3 straight hours, I will likely update the map on the fly during that time, as I see new data.
Of course, I will post that right here later today.
Make it a good one and let’s see those snow dances!!! 😉
Take care.
Thanks Chris for the update!
Snow Dance is On!!
Thanks Chris. Looks like a little bit of fun and games! Will be good to see a little snow falling. Appreciate the4 update. Will be looking forward to the next one.
Dancing in Harrison County!!!
Thanks Chris! Hoping by some miracle the models will trend 150 miles NW in the next 48 hrs or so. One can dream right? 😉
It has happened. At least I know a few times when my family was so excited for predicted snow only to watch it go 100 miles north within 24 hours. Predictions are just that until within about 12 hours, and even that can throw a new twist into the taffy.
Put me on your email list or tell me how to sign up. I use to be on it and now I do not recieve updates
There isn’t that option anymore.
How do i get on email
Dance on ….
Dancing in Putnam County WV
I will enjoy the small snow! But I’m putting a fork in the idea of snowstorm for the weekend!
Wise utensil placement.
So what’s the timing of this? When should Pike County start seeing accumulating snow?
Less than one inch. State wide.
Of salt. I would hope so. As far as snow, CB’s map is solid based on the models and current trends. You be making stuff up.
EF5 is a absolute clown he should be blocked!
Typical.if diff than what opinion you like than ban him.
No, it’s just your opinion is always opposite. Your just a typical instigating troll
Troll, that’s all.
He’s just stating his opinion. No need to be like the Left and censor everything that doesn’t agree with you.
Ok Shaak you think that and I’ll think reality
Speaking of alternate realities- where is Old School Rolo?
hummm. I was thinking the same thing!
Not trying to be mean. Just let him have his fun.
Whoop it up
What time Thursday will this start???
Hope for an inch, it will likely be the only chance we have at one until late month at best
Sadly for snow lovers, CB’s winter outlook seems at this point to be golden. Panned out so far.
Anyone have a link to his winter forecast? I missed it this year…

So 1000lbs of salt on truck and WWA are now being posted. Get to spread some salt tonight. Yey! Hope this one ends up on the higher end of totals. Could be some 14-1 15-1 ratios. But Virga could still some of that.
Thanks for the update CB.
Virga: AKA parachute for mets 🙂 😉
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES JUST ISSUED FOR ALL JKL COUNTIES IN EAST KY.
Will laugh if this ends up over achieving and or gets upgraded later today/tonight!
It may be hard to believe, but not all teachers wish for snow days. In the districts where the days have to be made up, some of us would rather be in school during a cold, snowy winter day than on a 78 degree, sunny day. No dancing here.
Just looking at the winter forecast I would think we will need a good healthy snow to get to that normal to slightly above normal snowfall at this point if February is much milder than normal. Would be good for those that want a big snow instead of a bunch of small ones.
Hoping that the bold prediction of a significant freezing rain and ice event does not pan out. Bailey is so good at this stuff though.
Would be nice to see this one overachieve for those snow lovers out there. And then be topped off by the weekend storm not missing everyone.
Brining in LOU, and a fresh coat of salt in my school parking lot. Dancing for early dismissal tomorrow! As always, we shall see. Thanks for the updates CB!
Nope! The salt will get rid of it. School in session! 🙂 😉
Shhh! I don’t ever want to be in school again until June 13! I do love playing in the snow though. ⛄️
If you live in the Louisville area and use the Lewis & Clark bridge; be careful exiting the tunnels on the Kentucky side tomorrow.
3 to 5 inches Southern Ohio tomorrow.
Would love to see 4 inches here. My son keeps asking for snow and wants to play in it. He would enjoy it.
Northern KY seems to have the same potential as well. NWS says we could have 0 to 5″ in Covington, KY, haha. They claim a 2% chance of 6″. If I were betting I would bet 2-3″.
Wondering if this hits after we get to school. Those days are to worst if slick roads happen before school lets out. Hoping everyone stays safe if they have to drive on any slick roads.
The new euro for this weekend has shifted to the NW …plenty of time to move even more ….fingers crossed
How far??
Do you have a link?
On what site do you see that? Thanks.
Looking at the Louisville NWS snowfall guesstimate, of course Valley Station will get less than everyone else in the county…where’s the love???
I hear you from Cloverleaf brother.
If I’m wrong about only getting an inch I’ll admit I’m wrong. But with every model run it creeps more north.could be an indicator for that northwest shift sat.I think southeast Kentucky will get a few Inc he from that one.
Zzzzzzzzz
I’m afraid Rolo might have barbecued his goat. Probably in the process of training a newer more accurate predictor of Old School snow events than its predecessor .
Rolo coaster still in hibernation till an old schooler rolls in.
Not exciting enough for Rolo to appear. Now if we start talking blizzards in February, he’ll be around, maybe with a new goat? LOL
Rolo flip flops like a fish.
Hopefully we get a little tomorrow and this weekend. Long range looking a little mild, but that can change. Rolo not even impressed enough to comment.
Man talk about disgusted..Lol..Here in SE TN..Snow tomorrow to my north! Then Friday-saturday to my south! In a donut hole here..Lol
Winter storm WATCHES for Birmingham AL tomorrow..And ATL 1-3″ ..
Boy oh boy…I’m hoping for overachiever tomorrow or a unprecedented NW shift Friday..
Chances of either happening..1%..
So you’re saying there is a chance.
Wow! By now casting looks as though the sweet spot just may be North of the Ohio River. Don’t see much Southern movement on the slug of snow heading this way.
