Good afternoon, everyone. A major severe weather outbreak continues to hammer the southeastern part of the country. A rare high risk is out for a large chunk of real estate. These big storms continue to absorb a lot of the moisture and energy, slowing down the arrive of the heavy rain around here.

This continues to be one major storm system impacting the eastern part of the country. There is a wow factor to this system. If you look at the evolution and track of this system through Monday, you would think this is another shutdown winter storm for our region…

Without a cold high to our north, it’s just a big rain maker for our part of the world. You will notice how that continues toe evolve toward a major snowstorm across the northeast. The models didn’t show that several days ago, but the dynamics of this storm will produce enough cold air in that region.

For us, it still brings in widespread heavy rains that add up to an inch or two across the east…

Here’s regional radar to track the action…

Take the interactive radar down into the deep south and track the severe storms and follow live storm chaser video feeds…

From here, the focus continues to turn toward light snow and snow showers arriving by Thursday and Friday…

Waves of light snow and snow showers will then work across the region this weekend. Each of these can put down light accumulations, especially across central and eastern Kentucky.

One of these systems will try to amplify much more than what any model shows. That’s just how a northwesterly flow works. It’s just impossible to tell from this far out.

All of this is part of a much colder pattern taking control of the country as we wrap up January and roll into the first week of February…

Make it a great day and take care.
