Good afternoon, gang. It’s been a very ugly day across central and eastern Kentucky with very gusty winds and rounds of rain. The rain has caused some minor flooding issues across the area we highlighted in the east. Now, we start to focus on winter blowing back in here before the week is done.
A cold front moves in on Wednesday with gusty winds and showers. Much colder air then filters in behind this front as snow showers and light snow kicks in on a northwesterly wind flow by Thursday…
Periods of light snow, flurries and snow showers will then be noted Friday into Saturday.
In my last update, I mentioned the potential for one of these systems to dig deeper and amplify into something just a little bigger. I pointed toward Sunday and the models are pointing the same way…
Snowfall numbers from Thursday through Monday on the GFS are pretty decent. Again, it’s one model run that will show something a little different with each run. Here’s the current snapshot of 4 days worth of systems diving in here…
That’s a snowFALL map and not a snow depth map. It’s a cumulative thing. 😉
The overall pattern continues to throw cold shots into the country with arctic air getting into the mix. This shows up all the way into early February…
For pure fun, the 16 day GFS snowfall map…
That looks similar to a few of the individual GFS Ensemble members in recent days. Here’s the brand new look at the Ensembles…
While no snow map should ever be taken literally, the above maps tell the story of how winter will, at least, target our part of the world with snow chances over the next few weeks.
Enjoy the rest of your day and take care.
Wonder if we get a few snows more than salt totals? Not being sarcastic- genuine question. Seems we could with clippers. It is the southern feds that I view with model contempt.
Not likely to get more snow than salt. You know the drill. 😉
Woodford county has only gotten one dose of salt this year. My truck appreciates that
Judging by the map above could there be a dusting in places in ky on Thursday/Friday or is that just flurries flying around?
I’m wondering the same
I`ll take e-6!
Ec is not bad either!
Not bad at all.
Hey, those Ensembles looking better! Hopefully, Rodger’s backyard gonna get some snow action. Thanks Mr Bailey! Rodger in Dodger
Might just get some snow after all, keeping this winter from being a total bust.
What are the actual daytime high temps forecast to be based on those maps? If it’s anything more than upper 20s during the day, forget about much snow, unless a snow shower goes crazy.
It’s also interesting how sometimes deep south thunderstorms steal our moisture, while other times they don’t. You can’t trust a southern storm. We were supposed to get 2 to 4 inches of rain in Lexington from these last 2 rain storms – we got 1/2 inch from each storm, around a total of an inch or a little more of rain.
I still say as horrible as this winter has been – and it’s been TERRIBLE so far – it will only take one major storm for us to forget about it.
The rain didn’t show here as the models predicted either. Thankfully we have just about an inch since midnight yesterday.
That is probably why CB is saying that is potential totals, but not on ground same time.
The Low did not track as first thoughts. When heavy rain was forecasted the Low was to be spinning right up through the state toward the east side of the Great Lakes. This Low went further east up through Chattanooga along the eastern seaboard. Thus take the rain further east with it.
Just like if it had been snow. Go figure
Like the look of those maps. I know we have seen them before with no avail, but if we all keep positive vibes flowing Mother Nature might just give us a little (or more) wintery precip in the form of snow. We all just need to THINK SNOW.
I want some snow …☃️❄️…hope that’s enough to convince Mother Nature …I need it for my garden…nitrogen…
The temps in the Huntington WV viewing area are predicted to be in the mid to upper 30’s this weekend. If that happens any snow we get will only stick at night then melt by 10am. But I guess it is better than nothing.
