Good evening, everyone. We’re putting the wraps on a calm and quiet Groundhog Day across the bluegrass state. This calm weather lasts for a few more days and then things get cranking with a big storm system early next week.
With a faster and stronger arrival of this storm, it’s basically shredding the Super Bowl Sunday system. That thing zips through here early in the morning with a touch of light rain and snow, but nothing more. Afternoon readings will surge into the 40s with a 50 in the south and west.
Temps will then take off by Monday and Tuesday as we find ourselves ahead of this major storm cranking to our west. As that swings through here on Wednesday, temps absolutely crash….
That’s a big time wind maker, too.
Here’s how that system plays out every 6 hours from Monday through Wednesday…
That’s from the European Model and it shows heavy rain and storms to some wraparound snows by Wednesday.
The Canadian Model has a similar evolution, but handles this thing just a bit differently. It keeps showing a better snow threat behind it…
The afternoon run of the GFS has the similar snow system showing up after the main storm goes through. Check this out…
Enjoy your evening and take care.
I would bet my life on it that that second system go’s north or south of kentucky altogether. Suppression will be the ultimate theme.
EF….Do you EVER agree on anything CB has to say.
CB is just pointing the models out. Doth not a snow threat mode maketh.
Honey Boo Boo lowered the bar for television and this winter lowers the bar for snow totals.
Winter Boo Boo
I’m not disagreeing with chris. He never said it’s going to hit ky.he can’t know that this far out.
Looks like that fantasy gfs storm again. Both the 12z and 18z showing it. But given the European has been terrible for our area recently, it may be onto something.
0Z GFS came out and went far south with an amplified storm pulling even more cold air down with it. I’m not buying it.
You can’t put any faith in wraparound/ backside snows.
But you can the cold air it brings in along with an Apps runner to follow. Still winter and one can hope.
Hey now! That looks pretty good. Let’s hope that system holds for the tail end of next week. Thank you Chris.
So hoping for that second system to organize itself into one decent snow event for the area. This winter needs at least one good hoorah before we throw in the towel to spring. Could this one be it? I sure hope so.
GFS = Fake Weather
Or a broken clock is correct twice a day.
Although the GFS is never right. ( sarcasm)
Hope everybody had a safe Groundhog Day.
After seeing the movie, one likely never thinks of the Sonny & Cher song “I Got You Babe” the same way ever again! 😛
We may be talking NW shift next week.
Still have hope.
Such comments… Well one can only hope and keep the faith I agree we need one big hurrah we have been waiting all winter … think ❄️⛄️ Chris can only read what is posted… Thank you so much CB for doing everything you do…⛄️
I can’t help but keep on hoping. I love winter and snow, so wishing this storm could pan out…but I haven’t read the term ‘backloaded winter’ in a couple of weeks. Does that mean CB’s confidence in it has diminished?
