Good Tuesday and Happy Valentine’s Day. Our “close call” system is having a minor impact on our weather today into Wednesday. Thais happens as chillier air moves back in, but the big surge of spring coming later this weekend into early next week is the star of the weather show.
Our day may start with a small batch of light rain and light snow zipping across the north. From there, we turn our attention toward a southern system bringing scattered showers to the region late today, with the greatest risk across the southern half of the state. Outside of any showers, it’s a mix of sun and clouds with gusty winds and temps in the low 50s…
That southern system will largely impact southern and southeastern Kentucky tonight and early Wednesday. The GFS is now bringing a swath of rain and snow to these areas…
That should show you just how close of a call this system really is.
This cold won’t be around very long as spring surges back in here by Friday. Readings into the afternoon will likely make a run at 60 degrees…
After a shower chance on Saturday, the temperatures then surge by Sunday through early next week. Record highs in the 70s are a possibility during this time…
That could set the stage for a very active storm system rolling our way by the middle of next week.
I will have another update later today. Enjoy your Tuesday and take care.
NWS Louisville has announced their upcoming Skywarn c*l*a*s*s*e*s for the training of new storm spotters as well as refreshers for current spotters:

NWS Paducah has already had several training sessions this winter. Their next c*l*a*s*s*e*s are this Thursday Feb 16 with a c*l*a*s*s in Owensboro and a separate session the same day in Hickman KY.

Looks as though we will get through February with no real threat for snow. This is the first year I can remember to ever go through January and February without CB at least looking at a legitimate threat of winter weather. March may throw in a surprise, but regardless this has been one odd winter.
This is true. Even way back to the days when he blogged along with TG. This would be the first winter not to have any discussion at all. We have had snow threats that went bust, but we at least had the threat modes for snow.
Winter of Honey Boo Boo
Hmm, from reading last post, sounds like CB had the old fork in it even before myself, but he did elude to that in his pre-winter forecast, of which I agreed, and have been ridiculed for by 2 or 3 all winter season LOL. Moral of the story, first and foremost, listen to what CB says and how he presents it, he’s the best out there…and second don’t discount the ol YAWN METER.LOL A spring like weekend coming. Yes!!!
You laugh now, but what will you do when some poor jogger gets taken away by the mutant mosquitoes from the lack of sustained cold to kill the critters? Well, maybe not a jogger- perhaps a large Chiuaua…… This gettin’ reals.
At least CB has never been annoying, unlike you.
LOL, another bland statement from “life of the party” Hamlin, do you ever make a meaning for comment about the weather? Or just look to tell people they are ” WRONG?” one Trump is enough LOL
Meaningful*
Coming from someone who thinks he is right all the time, it’s pretty rich of you to say that. 😉
You two are prime targets for the mutant skeeters. While you are arguing, they will sneak up and sweep you up into their lair. Mutant skeeters have lairs!
???haha Never said I was right all the time, not even close, not even 50% of the time. However, I was right about putting a fork in winter weeks ago, however lucky I was with that forecast. I used the info CB provided and felt like it was going to be an uneventful winter, and it was. Unlike yourself, I don’t take myself that seriously.Loosen up a little man LOL, it’s ok LOL
Bubba, you’re probably right about the skeeters, they were awful last summer, can’t imagine what they will be like this time. I think they do have lairs LOL
Chris, your radar is wrong. I was just outside and no rain, but is cloudy and I have a temperature of 37 degrees on my monitor. I believe we could be looking at evaporating precipitation, my relative humidity is now 16 %, so this explains the false return. The system to our south is a weak part of the southern jet stream. This, system is quickly moving east and will likely move up the east coast and converge with the northern jet just east of Boston, which will produce another round of heavy snow for them, just speculating. As, for the predicted very warm weather for the up coming weekend along with a chance of severe weather, again is just speculation.
Yeah, it’s called virga. As far as the “phasing” goes with the southern and northern branch there was no “speculation” it’s been well advertised for days now it’s no secret that the phasing would not occur here, but east of here giving the New England states another healthy snowstorm. As for the weekend no “speculation” there either it’s going to get warm. Pretty much a given no speculation needed there either.
Boston may escape the brunt of this one, but several locations in Maine have been absolutely hammered during the past 7 days. Including the Portland/Gray NWS office, anywhere from 30-40″ has fallen. Hartford, ME has received over 4 feet of snow during the 8 out of 9 days it has accumulated. Roof collapses imminent.
Agreed. I’ve been watching traffic cameras from Maine over this past weekend they have gotten big time snows up there.
Winter is done good bye
Well…..bye! 😀
I’m your huckleberry.
Lesson here is, This is a weather blog. Not something for politics to enter. Chris has done a stellar job with forecasting this winter and if he says back loaded, then I still hold out as bad as I hate to for snow come March. Yes people it does snow in March. Even April.. Having said that, betting against Chris is alot like betting against other recently successful people, you will lose and yes Im talking about the Patriots.
Virgil your right about snowing in March and April. I live in Southern Ohio and we got around 13 inches of heavy wet snow on or around April 6 or 9th 1987. We got the whole 9 yards. Thunder and lighting. Worst kind of snow to try to drive in. We’ve had several big snows in March also.
Yall need to meet up and work out yer differences. Sitting behind key boards everybody is rude.
I think CB is just fine with how this winter has played out. I know he doesn’t like winter to hang around into mid to late March. Even if we do get a little cold in March , with the way January and February has been no complaint from me. Its been like March and April for the majority of the last two months.
