Wednesday Evening Update

Good evening, everyone. A seasonal chill is in the air tonight, but that will soon give way to another big surge of springtime weather for our neck of the woods. Record highs are still a possibility as we roll our way into next week.

Milder winds begin to blow on Thursday as thermometer readings make a run into the upper 40s east, to middle 50s west. Skies should stay mainly sunny.

Friday looks like a flat-out awesome weather day with sunshine and highs in the low 60s…

The only drawback to the forecast comes later Saturday with some scattered showers developing. This happens as a weak upper level system passes through here…

Highs Saturday will be in the 60-65 degree range, but should take off by Sunday. As skies become sunny, readings range from 65-70 in most areas.

Low to middle 70s then sweep in here early next week…

There could be a shower or thunderstorm entering the picture by the middle of the week, and that may knock the temps down a few degrees. That could mean temps drop into the “chilly” upper 60s for a day.

No sweat, the 70s move back in later in the week ahead of a potent storm system…

It’s not too crazy to think about this pattern throwing an 80 degree temps somewhere across Kentucky.

The aforementioned storm will then move our way next weekend, wiping out our spring fling…

Winter is not dead. I keep trying to make this point, but it’s easy for people to get caught up in just how warm it has been of late. I get that. But, this isn’t a pattern that typically makes a seamless transition into “true” spring.

Enjoy the evening and take care.

A March snow just may be on the way!!

Wow, sure not much going on.. That’s when you know it’s spring, maybe one weather system per week with a weeks worth of sunshine in between..

This has been the worst winter in my 12 years here in KY this time and in my 13 years from 77 – 90 my first time living here. I never give up until the second week of March. After that, I am ready for spring. But no prolonged cold spell and no snow at all.

I checked on KY Mesonet and see that the longest cold stretch was a four day spell with a below freezing high and 1/2 inch of snow total… I even went to the highest area of West Virginia for a January camping trip to suffer through 40 degree rain… Enough to depress a winter lover…

    Here’s hoping for “next week’s storm…”

How can winter be dead when it never got started?
