Good Friday, folks. A small taste of winter is back in the bluegrass state, but this isn’t going to hang around very long. Temperatures this weekend are set to turn much milder than what we have out there today. This continues to be part of the back and forth setup that will likely cause additional severe weather issues in the coming weeks.
A small band of light snow and flurries will continue to dive from northwest to southeast very early this morning. Some coatings are possible with this in a narrow band. Elsewhere, some flurries will fly around with a mix of sun and clouds. Highs today range from the low 40s west to the middle 30s east…
Saturday starts cold with reading deep into the 20s for many. Milder winds then begin to blow with afternoon temps hitting the low and mid 50s east, with low 60s in the west…
The entire area hits the 60s on Sunday with southwesterly winds becoming more established. This wind will also bring some clouds in here and I can’t rule out a shower trying to pop.
Monday looks similar as mild weather continues ahead of a cold front. That front moves in on Tuesday with the potential for a line of showers and thunderstorms…
Can we get some strong storms out of that? That’s certainly a possibility.
Chilly temps swing back in behind that front, but another big warm up kicks in by the end of the week…
That’s ahead of… Wait for it, wait for it… Another strong storm system…
As I’ve been telling you for weeks now, this is a very worrisome pattern as we head into the severe weather season. We have already had one major severe weather outbreak, and I would think this pattern can throw several our way through May. Ugh.
Have a great day and take care.
Hoping for more warm days ahead and less cold.
This winter lover has thrown in the towel. 1/2 inch of total snow and only 14 days all winter when the average temperature was below freezing. Most disappointing winter in my 12 years here. Oh well, at least the last three were good with a good amount of cold and snow. I am just thinking we are reloading for next winter!
I’m impressed you held onto the towel this long 😉
At least we near literally have nowhere for snow to go but up. Truly though, there has been far more salt accumulation than snow. Me thinks local and state salt budgets for next season are covered already.
I am about ready to throw in the towel as well
Just put my 10 snow sleds back in the shed
Woke up to a beautiful coating of snow. If there was a collision between the northern component and the southern component we would be shoveling snow off our driveways. Not looking forward to the upcoming weather events next week. This is what we get when we have an unusual warm fall and winter. Instead, of having snow and cold in the months of Dec. Jan. and Feb. we have tornadoes in March, April and May. Stay tuned to your local weather alerts and watch the skies. Have a great day.
A total of 3 confirmed tornadoes in Kentucky(lmk CWA) and 2 in southern Indiana so far…more surveys ongoing today
I take it there’s no chance at any significant snow to close out this “winter”?
There hasn’t been any significant snow to start the winter let alone close it.
This. The only stuff floating in the air really has been salt crystals when the air would get dry and the wind picked up.
Pretty good snow shower we are getting in Jackson, Ohio right now.
I Think it was a failure. They were supposed to have a Test of the weather alert system after 10 am this morning. They went off in the city of Winchester, but my weather radio and phone never alerted or the Television as they said it would. Thoughts or reasons???
The alert radios that were distributed widely in Madison County a few years ago have an interesting story behind them. When we had the terrible storms five years ago many of them never made a peep. When I called the emergency services folks they came to house, examined the radio and told me I needed to keep it near a window and they don’t work well in “bad weather”. Other folks reported the same story. The previous version of the radios would wake me up at night with a thunderstorm WATCH 50 miles away – not a local warning but a distant watch.
As a result – we put our radio in a storeroom in the basement and took out the batteries… Perhaps I should go to the store and just buy one and not rely on the freebie…
Here far western,ky mother nature gave us a coating of snow it looked pretty while it lasted.
Love to get a big snow to close this mild winter but it’s not likely to happen. I am ready for spring to begin in full force.
If you look at historical winter snow totals, you see that winters like this happen from time to time. The last three winters were remarkable, so we were due for a dud. This gardner’s not looking forward to the bugs, though.
Last summer the bugs were worst than has been in yearsand hopefully this summer won’t be as bad.
When is the Jackson NWS going to post storm survey info for 3/1’s storms?
They confirmed the storm in my area as a Microburst , 108 mph winds it was 1000 ft long and 4000 ft wide. (Ashland) It did alot of damage. The rest of the area had prob 70 to 80 mph winds. Roofs blown off, doors ripped off of business , power poles broken off and others leaning. Our mall had damage, cars were moved by the wind aswell. It was a mess.
Thanks Chris. I told you we would pay for the nice warm weather way too early! Looks like our payback will be a yo yo pattern with severe weather in abundance. Hoping I am wrong. Have a great Friday evening all. Thanks again Chris, for keeping us safe and informed.
