Good Tuesday, everyone. Frigid temps are engulfing the eastern half of the country and that includes the bluegrass state. It doesn’t get much colder this time of year as we will find readings deep into the teens the next few mornings. I’m also tracking some snow showers and flurries.
Our day starts with the potential for some slick spots out there with temps in the 20s. Some morning light snow can leave a little slush around, so keep that in mind.
Northwesterly winds will then really kick in later today into the evening…
That flow will likely bring some moisture our way from the Great Lakes. Look for some snow showers and squalls to kick in later in the day and those can drop some local accumulations. Outside of that, expect partly cloudy skies with gusty winds.
Track the local flakes…
While we are getting in on this, a MAJOR blizzard is smacking the east coast. This thing is massive and will cause all kinds of issues. The interactive radar will allow you to follow the storm and to see live storm chaser video…
Back in the bluegrass state, frigid temps in the teens will be noted for Wednesday and Thursday. A few record lows may be challenged.
Friday will find milder winds for a brief period as showers increase ahead of another system diving in from the northwest. This will also try to ramp up to our east, pulling down more cold air and some snow showers on Saturday…
Another brief rebound in temps is possible later Sunday into Monday, but the cold presses back in after that. That gives our pattern an interesting look with warmer air just to our south, with the cold on top of us…
West to east moving storm systems love temp gradients like that and that’s exactly what several models are showing for about a week from now…
Hang in there winter lovers, the pattern still offers some hope over the next week or so.
I will update things later today. Make it a good one and take care.
Wow, can’t believe I’m still holding out hope for a good snow but I am! I don’t know that I’ve seen a model map look quite like that one for next week. Wouldn’t that be something if we got our biggest snow of the winter in late March this year! (I know that’s not saying much but still).
Over and 1 inch of snow on the ground at my house.
Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner! You now have double what my area has had for the entire winter!
Ironic that even with the stuff in the air over the next few days, we still will not bust 1″ total accumulation. Lot’s of salt this winter, and little else.
Blog salt > road salt > snow
Even some of the snow totals for the east cost storm do not seem as high as predicted by NWC. There are still blizzard warnings, but totals are less than some first thought. Very interesting to watch the storm chasers!
Still amazes me how only a few miles difference in a “lows” position can effect the type, amount and duration of precipitation an area can get. The snow/sleet/rain line seems to continue to be more west then first thought in the NE. That’s what makes weather so interesting, even with our arsonal of computer/ electronic advances ,Mother nature still has the upper hand . Go Cats!
I was a winter lover in January and February, but the warm weather and flowers have cured me of that. Bring on spring!
“A week from now…” We all know how that goes.
Now Chris, you dont expect us to buy into that “week from now” phantom system do you? lol Well yes, some will…
Maybe we can luck out and get a big snow in the next week. We are due for one this winter!
Is that system nw of us something to look at?
Looks like the blizzard that was being hyped is a bust for a lot of east coast. Dusting in DC and sleet in New York. Perhaps further north east will get the blizzard.
I guess it’s a good thing it wasn’t hyped here. >.>
This is a big bust since was essentially a now cast event and still was wrong. The logic behind the forecast was solid, but mother-nature badger don’t give a shoot about no forecast.
Forecasted snow can be a no show, and a dusting can turn into a shoveling event.
Snow has never been “hyped” here, despite what Billy Boy and Dimwit Ackerman think.
My only thought about this back-loaded winter…looks to be bad news for locally grown peaches 🙁
Ah well…
And the birds are just tickled pink I am still providing lots of food in my feeders!
If I was a betting man, I’d say the pattern next week will be a wet one rather than a snowy one NWS in Louisville has bought into the warmer solution for mid next week, at least through next Tuesday. Be real shocked if future forecasts change drastically. Just been that type of Winter for us snow lovers. Just think, only nine more months till snow makes another appearance.
You’re very likely right. Betting next week’s cold won’t be “cold enough” to suppress the system the way recent ones have been suppressed into TN and AL. Still a terrible winter here. Rodger in Dodger
The way some met’s are acting you would think we are getting below 0 temps this week
