Good Wednesday to one and all. We are issuing a full blown Pot Of Chili ALERT for the next few days. Yes, I know we had chili weather this past weekend, but I can’t issue an alert like this with flooding rains taking place. 🙂
While we are enjoying a blast of fall, Hurricane Irma is a monster heading toward Florida. We will get to that in a moment.
Let’s start with today’s weather. We will start things out with a clear sky in many areas, but clouds develop this afternoon as cold air aloft helps bubble up some showers and storms. Some of these may produce small, soft hail…
Highs will be in the 60s with gusty winds adding a chill to the air.
Temps Thursday morning can drop deep into the 40s, potentially setting some record lows. Lexington’s record is 48 from 1988. With clear skies, that should fall… even with the airport thermometer.
Thursday will see similar conditions, but with less showers. Highs for Friday through the weekend look to be in the 70s with gorgeous skies. It’s fall.
Hurricane Irma hit 185mph on Tuesday, marking only the 5th storm in the Atlantic basin to ever have winds that high. Here’s a look at the monster…
The forecast track from the National Hurricane Center…
Irma will get to near Cuba and then will likely turn due north! Where that turn happens remains to be seen, but it will make a HUGE difference in areas taking the direct impact from Irma. This may very well be a Cat 4 or 5 storm wherever that landfall is.
The GFS is back to showing a track it had a few days ago, with our hurricane going up the east coast of Florida and into South Carolina. Notice the remnants wind up in Kentucky…
The European Model also goes up the east coast of Florida…
The model then takes the hurricane into South Carolina, with rains arriving in Kentucky by Tuesday…
Here are the latest GFS Ensembles spaghetti plot…
I will update things later today, so check back. Make it a good one and take care.
Disney shouldn’t be too crowded this weekend! Think positive!
I will eat chili in summer and grill in January.
Maybe, just maybe mind you, your neighbors wouldn’t mind that behavior if you’d put on more than a thong when you do that out on the deck.
Thelma Lou said she just saw the Old Farmers Almanac & it’s forecasting a mild & wet winter for KY & most of the Ohio valley.
That book is never right.
I agree, that’s why i’m gonna buy some extra shovels this year…it seems they work a year behind.
Don’t you have a stove?

Tracking all the tropical activity.
I didn’t realize that the Oregon fires were started by teenagers.
This spot was on my to visit bucket list.

Here’s an article about it… http://katu.com/news/local/willamette-week-speaks-to-eagle-creek-fire-witness-group-of-kids-found-it-funny
My wife and I were in Oregon only a little over a month ago. While it was unusually hot, the fires then were mostly well to the east although you could see the smoky haze and you could smell the smoke around The Dalles, OR. With this and other not-so-good stories going on (especially weather), a little good news in that the historic lodge at Multnomah Falls appears to have been saved by firefighters as of this evening.
BTW, it was indeed a great trip to Multnomah Falls, Mt Hood, The Dalles, Astoria, the Pacific Coast, Portland itself, etc so hope you make it out.
We’ll watch and see where this Hurricane really ends up going.
Just yesterday the computers were taking it into the Gulf of Mexico.
Some computer models were taking Irma into the Gulf yesterday others were not.
Ok. Just heard where it has taken a little northward jog. But you know they wobble back and forth at times. Thanks.
Irma will end up staying offshore skirt the very outer banks of NC continue to curve and race toward our friendly neighbors north of the boarder. My guess is just as accurate as the NWS at this point or the Farmers Almanac. Let’s hope my guess is right.
The 0-144 from 12z Sept 6 GFS run looks terrifying, and bringing the remnants right to us in a big way.

This is Chris’s blog he can share what he pleases
Andy Rose ,
I don’t think Schroeder was talking about Chris.
If you click on what he posted you will see who they are really talking about.
That may be true, but the implication is still there. Uncool.
Ouch..Looks like Miami takes a direct hit on the Euro..
She’s a Cat5. She’s going where the winds pull or push her.
Record low temps for some in our region…Some lucky residents might see northern lights tonight.
Want to let all of you know, that I’am really concerned, and feel very uneasy about what Hurricane Irma is going to destroy once it makes landfall. My older sister and brother in law live in Florida, and I’am worried that they may be caught in this horror. I have been corresponding with them, and I thought it would be better for them to leave now. I have been tracking Irma since Monday and I still have to guess where this monster storm will hit. Computer models are all over the place, as this storm is getting closer. Maybe someday in the future we will have faster computers that will accurately forecast the tracks of these monster hurricanes. Peace, and may god bless all of you.
