A Temp Fight Shaping Up Next Week

Good Friday, folks. It’s the first weekend of November, but it’s looking and feeling more like the first weekend of October. Thermometer readings will run well above normal as we track scattered rain chances. The focus on the forecast is on a big temp fight taking shape next week.

We have a cold front slowing down across Kentucky today. Showers and storms are along and ahead of the boundary, with the bulk of the rains coming during the first half of the day. Some drying skies take place this afternoon and evening with temps mainly in the 60s. Those numbers will drop some during the afternoon and evening.

The front returns to the north as a warm front on Saturday with scattered showers and storms around. Temps hit the low 70s south, with middle 60s in the far north.

Sunday will be super duper windy with gusts of 30mph possible. Temps will steal the show, one week after snow. Highs are deeeep into the 70s for the entire state. Severe weather is likely to develop across parts of the Ohio Valley later Sunday, ahead of a strong cold front.

That line of storms will get in here Sunday night and early Monday, with the potential for strong storms…

Winds will be a big player into Monday as the front slows down.

That front stalls out on top of the region into the middle of the week, with waves of low pressure riding along it. The first wave rolls through here with rain Monday night and Tuesday…

You can clearly see how the colder air is pressing in from the north and northwest. If not, here’s a little better look…

Another system then rolls eastward Wednesday into Thursday, but the models are having a tougher time figuring out how to deal with this. The European Model shows some chilly rains…

Another cold air mass shoots into the northern half of the country by next weekend…

All this cold is going to be a force to be reckoned with later this month into December. Some fun December analogs have been showing up for a long time and they continue to do so as we get closer.

I will update things later today. Have a good one and take care.

It’s always next week. If anyone really wants to know what is really going on in the atmosphere, explore the extra strong Bermuda High pressure system that seems to be dominating for several months. This system will be a significant player in our up coming winter here in the Ohio River valley.

Thelma Lou says always put the money on the warm air.

  3. Oliver Queen says:

when will the winter forecast be out?

    • Schroeder says:

If you know meteorology, you should have a handle by now on what the up coming winter will be.

      • Prelude says:

Schroeder if you knew anything about meteorology which you are clueless on you would know that your comments are completely false. Your nothing more than a clueless troll. You know why you don’t like me, or Ralph for that matter? Because we saw right through your manipulative ways while most others fended for you. Most people on this blog see you now for who I saw you for originally. A arrogant disrespectful contradicting know it all that knows a lot of nothing.

        • Prelude says:

It’s amazing to see how people for the most part get along on this blog when your not commenting. When you start trolling around and making unnecessary typical Schroeder comment’s you completely disrupt the harmony on CB’s blog.

        • Schroeder says:

I know meteorology. I have been studying the subject since 1958. I have a degree in agriculture and horticulture as well as agronomy. I worked for almost 40 years in the garden center business and did quite well financially. Don’t tell me that I know nothing about meteorology. I learned from the best.

          • Prelude says:

Then stick to what you know gardening and planting and being a tree hugger. You claimed you learned from the best about meteorology, who did you learn meterology from? The Farmers Almanac?

      • Jeff Kidd says:

      • Jeff Kidd says:

Schroeder you have a guess, not a forecast. Since you have no degree in meteorology I will choose to listen to Chris, not you. Quit acting like you know more than Chris and quit acting like your winter guess is fact. Just like Prelude said, you are rude, arrogant, and very condescending to others and Chris on this board.

        • Schroeder says:

All long range forecast are a guess. I have a very good and detailed winter forecast that I believe will pan out.

    • TONEY says:

when did the preliminary winter forecast come out? did i miss it? i live in huntington, wva so i can’t watch him on tv but i follow the blog every day…….i wish the winter forecast would be posted on the blog for out of towners and out of staters……( i know those probably are not words…..towners and staters. ).

  4. SHAAK says:

Chris, just remove the ability to comment. All people do is bash other commentors for their opinions. Otherwise, ban the people being nasty.

  5. corey says:

Wasn’t there supposed to be a preliminary winter outlook in October? He asked for a lot of comments and we gave him tons lol what happened to that?

    • Prelude says:

I can’t argue that. Your guess is as good as mine.

    • Terry says:

Correct, but the way I look at is this: a closer, less time gapped winter forecast will likely be more accurate anyways. Plus, Chris is by far more accurate than many mets with last year’s winter forecast being an exception compared to his past winter forecasts. Even though last year’s winter forecast didn’t pan out, it was only forecast to be around average anyways so no real loss in my opinion!

    • Mike S says:

Well, he has been dropping several ‘bread crumbs’ along the way, talking about analogs and teleconnections and other hints. Don’t worry, it will eventually lead to one big donut, just whetting your appetite.

  6. Schroeder says:

All of you on this forum, with an exception, want to just get on here and fight with one another. I guess all of you don’t have anything else to do. Why don’t you practice this old saying ” If you can’t say anything good about anyone or comment in this case don’t say anything at all. Write what you know about the weather and be done with it. Good night and God Bless.

  7. Schroeder says:

Prelude, what do you think the winter will be ? To me you seem to know some meteorology. I get that when I only read your post. When I am not posting on the forum.

    • Jeff Kidd says:

So are you saying that your winter guess will be more accurate than Chris’s? Even the best meteorologists will say forecasting winter is still at best an educated guess. Yes they can study analog years where we have had a La Nina with a negative QBO and also years when we have a weak El Nino with a negative QBO since it looks like it might be that way by the end of January, but it’s still a guess. But no your’s and your’s alone above all meteorologists will be the forecast that’s 100% correct? Is that what you are saying??

  8. Schroeder says:

I’ll tell you what, I won’t post for a whole week and we will see how many comments Chris Bailey gets. It will be interesting to read what all of you post.

    • Jeff Kidd says:

One only hopes you stay away longer, but you can’t hold your tongue for even a week.

      • Prelude says:

Schroeder sounds to me what your implying is nobody on CB’s blog is capable of putting a meaningful post about the weather except for you? With your arrogance I’m sure you kiss the mirror before you go to bed.

  9. Adult says:

Honestly I think you’re all a bunch of bickering children. I like to read CB’s forecasts a I tend to trust him more than most others in the area but good lord the comment section is just stupid.

Oh and Let me go ahead and put a condescending ‘thanks’ before some other clown does.

  10. Lotsasnow says:

Let’s just pretend Schroeder does not exist. Don’t respond and he’ll leave due to no attention.

  11. winter lover says:

Today’s Chris head line should have said A BLOG FIGHT IS SHAPING UP!!!! Lord have mercy people get a grip of your selfs and used this blog what it is for. Praying for you people.

  12. Billy Johnson says:

I live in northern Ohio and have never seen so much bickering in my life. You are all to blame for your lack of courtesy towards each other. Whatever happened to that good old southern hospitality. bj

  13. Troy says:

I’ll just go ahead and add my 2 cents…………………………………………….
