Good Monday to one and all. Our day is starting off with a line of strong thunderstorms racing across the Commonwealth. This is ahead of a cold front that is ready to throw on the brakes across southern Kentucky. That allows more rain to develop, leading to a soggy period through the middle of a colder week.
Our early day storms will slowly diminish as they cross the state, with high winds the main player. Some local 1″+ rain amounts are possible early on. Temps drop into the 50s behind the boundary, with gusty winds adding a chill to the air.
Here are the radars to track the storms…
Waves of low pressure develop along our stalled front, bringing additional rains to the region through the middle of the week…
Additional rain amounts of an inch or two will be possible during this time. The wet weather comes with chilly air pushing back into the state from the north and northwest on Tuesday. Watch the temp drop on the NAM…
A seasonal chill remains with us through Wednesday and Thursday, but a colder shot arrives by Friday. You can see that well on the temp departure animation…
Right now, that front looks dry as it moves through here. Highs on Friday may be upper 30s and low 40s after a morning in the low and middle 20s. That’s a cold day, folks.
The next system arrives over the weekend and should bring some chilly rains back into the region…
Notice how close flakes get to our north on Sunday?
I will update things later today, so check back. Make it a good one and take care.
Right now – a PERFECT example of the Lexington split
Did it miss Lexington or did I sleep thru thunderstorms and my weather radio. That would be highly unusual for me.
I don’t think that we got a drop of rain here at my home in my area of Lexington!! The wind was another matter- but as for the rain, it split on the radar, as MarkLex mentioned and the storms just seemed to either slip on by or even disappear. Or so it did for my area here, anyway, and we ended up with a lot of wind and nothing more. I didn’t even see any lightning or hear any thunder!!
Goodness, that radar looked wicked though, so I know some got rocked hard in some areas. Hope everyone is safe this morning and didn’t receive any damage from either the wind or the rain storms!!
Have a good day, everyone! As always, thank you, Chris, for all that you do for us- even coming in at night, none of this wind or rain was a surprise, thanks to you!
Saw that on radar at 3:00 AM and was amazed.
We did get some rain from the 2nd band here in Georgetown.
Didn’t seem bad here at all, heard some wind during the night, never heard thunder at all. My parents are telling me it is a night mare in the old homestead in NE Ohio, they got rocked yesterday.
Richmond barely got anything. A little wind, a little rain and brief thunder & lightening. Compared to the way most mets stated in their forecasts the night and day of the expected event, seems it was a big, but good miss for most folks. Normally after a big storm the temps crash, but did not as of this morning.
Once again, a big Good Luck to CB forecasting snow this winter. I am betting on mix/rain winning out for this area. Just as long as not ice, that is fine IMO by me 🙂
Agreed
Can be explained by higher pressure at the surface acting as a block.
?
It’s on the northern edge of the high pressure is where the most damage occurred.
0.04″ at my house in Valley Station, near Louisville. But, winds over 50 mph here caused a couple instances of significant limb damage in the neighborhood. I’m sure the neighbors loved the sound of our chainsaws at 1 o’clock this morning.
We had plenty of thunder and lighting here in Jackson County Ohio where I live. Some in the county had 3 1/2 inches of rain last night. At my house I had 1 and 3 tenths inches of rain in my rain gauge.
