Good Tuesday, everyone. It’s a much colder day out there, with northwesterly winds ushering in a few rain and snow showers. This drop in temps will hang around a few days, then we mild it up again, then we drop it back down again. It’s a fun ride in this “halftime” of real winter.
Temps out there today top out in the upper 30s and low 40s with gusty winds making it feel colder. That northwesterly wind will also spit out some rain and snow showers…
The chance for snow showers may be a little better later tonight and early Wednesday. Can we get a rooftop duster out of this? That’s a possibility.
Thursday looks better with sunshine and temps in the 40s. Temps reach deep into the 50s on Friday, with a 60 possible. That mild air lasts into Saturday with some late day showers on the increase. That’s ahead of another cold front blasting in here on Sunday.
The Canadian is following the lead of the European Model, showing a wave of low pressure along the front…
That would be heavy rain setup, with some snow on the backside by late Sunday into Monday.
The flip back to a harsh winter pattern continues to show up strongly on the models as we head into the first week of February. The European Ensembles show a DEEP trough swinging into the eastern half of the country…
The coldest air in the Northern Hemisphere, in relation to normal, is showing up with this trough…
February looks locked and loaded, with the potential for another memorable period of winter weather on the way.
I will have updates later today. Make it a good one and take care.
Hopefully the cold comes in and leaves back out when it’s supposed to. Would much rather have a cold or seasonable February and let that leave town by the time March rolls around. A warm February day is in the 50s. A warm March day can be in the 60s and 70s. Would much rather have warm March days if we could take a pick..
Unfortunately, Mother Nature decides our weather, whether we like it or not.
Each day we inch closer to spring. Get this February cold spell that’s coming out of are way and maybe March will be milder to. That would be great.
A mild March often leads to a cold April, with unwanted freezes.
Yesterday evening around 8:30 we had a thunderstorm, with lots of lighting and thunder, very heavy rain and hail. This was not forecast for my county. This is the first thunderstorm we have had for sometime. As Chris said the weather pattern is changing to a more up and down temperature extreme, which would translate to more severe weather as we head into spring.
The above statement is almost a given for the Ohio valley.
I know everyone loves to see it snow and it’s part of winter. I was a construction worker for years and work in all types of weather. To the ones who never had to go outside and be out there in the cold all day you would have a different opinion on wanting all this snow and cold. Just get you a job working in excavation laying storm sewer lines and wading mud up to your knees. You would be praying for just a 50 degree day.
I appreciate your comment.
Thanks Schroeder.
I know all about that, BH!!! My ex worked in concrete const. for years and I recall all the times they would leave out before daylight one morning and not get home until AFTER daylight the NEXT MORNING because it would be somewhat suitable for pouring it then either a very cold rain/extreme falling temps and he and only a buddy or two would be the ones willing to STAY and keep it going ALL NIGHT?! It took me a long while to get used to it, then I became the one that the other wives/gf’s, etc would call all hours of the night, asking me “Why ain’t they home now? Are they out messing around?”…LOL! And don’t forget the times when nobody else would work O/T for NO PAY to go out and set the next job up, so I would go out & chalk-line and hold boards, etc…in the snow so it would be ready the next time it got above 35°….
Sounds like you have a real good husband and he has a real good wife. Thanks for you comment.
Sorry I just now caught myself. He’s is your ex husband.
Check out the latest on Global Warming for 2017 from NASA. News for them, plants take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen for us to live on Earth dahhh. Here’s the BS link:http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/lexington-ky/40505/weather-forecast/338365
I guess temps will drop as the day goes? The temp is currently 45 at my house.
Hit 61 here in Harlan right around 1:00 last night but dropping since. As pretty typical, the storms missed here with only a whopping 0.02 rainfall. We are still okay on rain but could use some considering we are around half of normal for the last 90 days!
.01 of rain here :p Terry
If we can stay on the southern fringes of the colder air, maybe we can get lucky with some snow.
Not looking forward to single digits again, though.
Me either!
Thanks Chris. We got some thunder, hard rain and a LOT of wind last night. Temp was 45 this morning. Currently 42 with a cold breeze. Not strong but enough to make you feel it! Don’t mind February being cold with snow chances, but I am with BobT. February can be cold and snowy. When March comes, let the transition begin! Warmer weather and longer daylight hours are something to look forward to! I don’t want a cold March or April, although I know we have our little ‘winters’ to get through too. Hopefully, Morher Nature will okay nice and do that. Have a great Tuesday everyone.
I’m fine with more snow, just no more single digits, please!!!
February and March snowstorms are usually the heavy wet kind. Good for making snowmen or snow women and having snowball fights. They usually don’t last long, but they are common in the Ohio valley. On the negative side they can cause power failures and damage evergreen trees, and sometimes can cave in porch roofs.
Did you experience a caved in porch roof?
Almost, when we had twenty- eight inches of heavy wet snow a few years back. To correct it I installed a snow guard on my shed dormer above the porch.
Had a friend named Juanita a few years ago, her porch roof caved in & she only had one door out of the house. She stayed in there for days until someone arrived to move the debris from her doorway. p.s. don’t tell Thelma Lou.
I really like your humorous comments.
I know I’m outnumbered but I still need a good 5/6 inch snow. Come on it’s been a long time!
