Good Wednesday, everyone. Rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms are pushing across Kentucky today, kicking off a prolonged flood threat for the region. Several inches of rain will be likely through the upcoming weekend. Throw in some 30 degree temp swings and a few strong storms, and you have the making of a wild stretch of weather.
Here’s my updated rainfall forecast through Sunday…
That will be more than enough to cause rounds of flash flooding, general flooding and river flooding. If you live in a low-lying or flood prone region, please stay alert to the potential for high water issues.
This setup has the potential to produce significant flooding issues across much of Kentucky and surrounding states.
As a cold front stalls across Kentucky and will lead to some amazing temperature gradients. A 30 degree temperature swing on a given day is possible. The temps are going to be fascinating to watch during this period.
I’m also watching the potential for strong or severe storms at some point later Friday and Saturday.
Here are your tracking tools for day one of our flood threat…
I will have updates later in the day. Make it a good one and take care.
I’m eager to see how this all pans out. I know how dangerous flooding can be, but I’ve always been fascinated by flooding and the power of mother nature!
Quack, quack
LOL !!!
Everybody prepare your boat’s.
I think the high pressure to our east ( which is stationary at the present time ) is blocking the progression of the current system. Hopefully, the system will move through without the excessive rainfall that is predicted.
Right now it has begun to rain in my county. And right now it is winter in Saint Louis, Mo. Welcome to the mid-west.
Ohio Valley
You are correct sir, THE OHIO VALLEY but it is still MID-WEST weather.
Rainfall so far in my county of Taylor has been spotty and light. On the radar one can see that the heaviest rain is staying to our west and moving northeast, but the whole system is slowly moving southeast and weakening. I would expect the dryer air from the southeast ridge is the cause. I hope this set up continues for the flood prong areas to our north and east.
lol..Whole system moving southeast..Schroeder sure likes to take a nip or a good smoke in the daytime hours..
Not a weather related comment.
NWS issued special weather statement for Lewis Scioto and points north from 730 until 815 . Absolutely nothing going on here and I don’t see anything on radar here on Scioto/Adams line.
