Good Monday, everyone. March is a very fickle month, as we know. In recent years, we have seen deadly tornadoes, record warmth, record cold and an historic snowstorm. It’s the Mother Nature’s version of Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates. This year, we look to pull out some winter flavored treats from the big candy box.
A couple of systems threaten to bring some winter weather back into the bluegrass state, with the first one beginning to impact our weather today. Gusty showers are slowly working west to east, ahead of a cold front. Most of the rains won’t arrive until after dark…
Early morning rain moves away on Tuesday, leaving us with a windy and sunny day. Then the upper low moves in Tuesday night, bringing a rapid increase in rain and snow showers, and a big decrease in temps. Rain and snow showers are around into Wednesday…
Even colder air wraps in Wednesday night and Thursday on a strong northwesterly flow. Snow showers will be common during this time…
Light accumulations will be possible from time to time, especially in the mountains.
Another fast moving system then zips in here on Friday, bringing another round of rain and snow…
After that, the pattern is ripe for a significant storm system to impact much of the Ohio Valley into the northeast. This could be rain, snow or a mix of the two. The latest GFS continues to show this threat very well…
The European keeps looking similar…
A fully phased storm system is on the table.
I will have updates later today. Make it a good one and take care.
I’ll be following the blog very closely this week for updates on the weekend potential!
“A fully phased storm is on the table.” WOW! We haven’t heard that line much this winter.
It’s going to be before dark when rain is here in BG! In fact, it’s knocking on our door at 7 this morning! Earlier than expected, or just really slow moving so that most of the state won’t see it until after dark? Interesting pattern on the tables! Will be fun to see how it all plays out!
“Fully phased”? Can this be rain or snow, or is phased a snow term?
My Easter flowers are blooming and saying “think spring!” then March is over here saying “Oh yeah? Hold my beer…”
Hilarious!
Boo!!
#teamspring
NO! just NO! The mild temps of February spoiled me and I have zero desire to see snow, cold, or and type of winter now. 🙁
The main action almost certainly would be north and east of us, just as all events that have been for the past two winters. Slush mix would be our main frozen stuff. We would need a genuiiiine blizzard like in 93 to put Kentucky into the snow zone.
