Good Thursday to one and all. We have two big weather makers rolling toward the bluegrass state over the next several days. These two will combine to bring some pretty nasty weather days to our part of the world. Rounds of rain, gusty winds and chilly temps highlight, or lowlight, the forecast.
Clouds are thickening up today as the first system tracks across the deep south. This has an inverted trough developing northward into the Tennessee Valley, giving our system a double barrel low look. The main low runs up the east coast as a full blown nor’easter.
Rain arrives in Kentucky from southwest to northeast this evening into tonight. Those rains may be heavy at times early Friday with gusty showers taking us through Friday night. Temps will generally be in the upper 40s to low 50s for highs across the state.
A few showers will hang tough into Saturday as winds stay gusty. Temps range from the upper 40s to middle 50s, with the chilliest air in the east…
The next system then drops in from the northwest on Sunday, bringing widespread rain back into Kentucky. As that system wraps up to our east, northwesterly winds will keep a few chilly showers going into Monday…
That moves away late Monday, leaving us with some pretty good weather leading up to Halloween. The weather for the big day itself is a little dicey, given the timing of an advancing trough. This could fire up another potent storm system or two into early November…
I will have another update later today. Until then, I leave you with your Kentucky radar to track the rain toward the state…
Enjoy your Thursday and take care.
Enjoy reading your blog everyday.
The forecast for my county is for cloudy, mild and chances for showers from today through the middle of next week. A very depressing and uneventful weather scenario. I still think or speculate that the very warm Gulf of Mexico surface sea temperatures will unfortunately play a big part in the upcoming winter. In the meantime we can track the evolution of the Nor’easter this weekend. I think the state of Maine is in for a early season blizzard.
The low temperature for October was recorded at thirty one degrees in my county. We have yet to have our first hard freeze for the Autumn season, which is around October twenty on average. Unless we have a strong trough develop from Denver, Colorado to the east coast and two blocking high pressure systems one along the west coast and in the central Atlantic plus a weak El nino on the subtropical jet, this is going to be another regular Ohio Valley winter.
Give it a rest…jesus.
Oh God, Taylor County hasn’t had a hard freeze yet. Quick Schroeder, get on the phone with the media. I can’t think of a better sign of an upcoming global warming event than the fact that your home has not been below 28 yet this October.

Lexington’s average date for the first frost is October 15, first freeze is October 26, and the average date for the first hard freeze is November 5. So far we’ve been about “right on it” as far as averages go…what you’d expect for a “regular Ohio Valley winter.” I know lots of people on here want a big winter, but regular isn’t a bad thing…just boring.
I used to love coming here to read the weather and find out what was going to happen. I loved reading the comments because it was usually a very pleasant experience. Lately these comments have been very rude and disrespectful on both sides. Can’t we just talk weather? Do we have to have people that disagree with Chris, or think they know more than Chris ALL THE TIME? And do we have to have people that antagonize those people to the point that it monopolizes the conversations on here? Can’t we all just talk weather?
I know what you mean.
