Good Thursday, folks. Our winter storm continues to push across the region, bringing an icy mix early this morning, with rain to snow taking over after that. As the upper level low moves through, we need to be on guard for snow that can overachieve during the afternoon and evening.
Significant icing issues start the day across parts of central and northern Kentucky. Power outages have been common, with several trees down.
The transition to rain this morning does not have a long shelf life as cold air and wet snow increases from west to east…
In terms of afternoon and evening snows, some areas may pick up an inch or two of slushy accumulations. The NAM fam is picking up on it…
The European has a similar look…
The snow will finally taper off later tonight, but slick travel may develop with temps hitting the upper 20s by Friday morning.
I will have updates later today, so check back. Until then, I have you all set to track the progress of the morning snow line…

Make it a good day. Stay safe and take care.
Comma head is so far north already that we may not even get anything in Harlan later today…sigh☹. I hope it can upslope enough for at least first flakes but it is just so far north already.
So, many have now had first flakes (some multiple times), some with accumulation while we can’t get even our first flakes down here!?….this stinks….oh well, no ice is still NICE☺
We are pretty much still in the infamous twenty year dome here in Knox Co. Almost the entire state outside of this little section have seen multiple large snow events in the last three or four years. Hopefully some snows shift a little south and east this year. Odd that this area can keep getting missed.aaa.
The Wedge won again. We didn’ t even have any sleet or ice at the very start. Just rain all the way. I thought the Winter Weather Advisories were overblown in the Tri-State area. I am always glad if ice misses since it is usually the most dangerous.
That’s nuts…I live in greenup and we had a good amount of ice
Im in Bowling Green and we are in the same boat as you! We have what we call the BG Bubble here (even has a twitter page) because everything just goes right around us. We haven’t had a good snow since the big snows several years ago…and all rain yesterday! I have given up hope…guess it’s better to have low expecations and it turn out as you expected than high and be let down lol
Here in far western,ky the snow became a no show we got about an inch if that.. Oh well winter isn’t here yet I’m sure there more chances down the road
In Campbell County – first ever Ice Storm Warning resulted in the first ever power outage due to ice in the 14 years where I live now.
Jefferson County Ky over 90,000 without power according to the LG&E outage map and the number is climbing
Just two more degrees last night and would have been lights out for most, north of KY river. It was bad for some as is, but half the state could have been zapped.
Hey Chris, When is your winter outlook coming out?
Tonight at 6
Thanks Andy
We got smacked in Cincinnati (west side). Lines down all over. We have large limbs down, gutters down and roof damage. Our Oaks are 90 years old and still had leaves on them when the ice storm hit. We got about .4 of ice. Since 3am all we hear are the trees popping and then Boom…. another big limb down.
Stay safe out there everyone
I’m one of those 90,000 Prelude since 2:50 this morning and I have underground power lines. They eventually come to the surface and that’s where the problem is. Just a small part of our neighborhood is out. Neighbors just behind us have power. It may be a while before we get power back.
Had a good bit of ice here in East Louisville. Power has been out here since about 3. Not a fan of the ice.
