Good evening, folks. Our next arctic front is about to plow into the region and will bring bitterly cold wind chills and a period of light snow. This sets the stage for the bluegrass state to be transformed into the frozen tundra overnight and Wednesday.
My latest thoughts haven’t changed much from earlier:
The arctic front is moving in with a period of powdery snow becoming likely. Light accumulations are likely and that will cause travel issues to develop. Winds will blow the snow around. Bitterly cold temps blow in with this system with actual lows ranging from -5 to 5 above in many areas over the next 30 hours or so. Wind chills continue to be the main story. It’s going to feel like -5 to -20 at times from late tonight through Thursday morning. That’s some dangerous cold that will lead to issues if you’re outside for too long. Another period of light snow may show up Wednesday night, especially in the west. Overrunning snow and wintry precipitation is possible Thursday night and Friday as the bitter cold pulls out of town.
I know many schools have cancelled classes for Wednesday and that’s an excellent call. Let me offer some assurances to these school district administrators, you are absolutely doing the right thing. A 2014 CDC Report shows about 2,000 people die from weather related events each year in the US. 63% of the deaths were related to cold temps, 31% from heat and 6% from tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, severe storms/lightning. Nothing soft about cancelling school for cold.
I leave you with your tracking toys…

Stay warm and take care.
Thanks Chris. Short comment…BRRRRRR!! Stay warm and safe!
Our governor is an idiot
And so are the alternatives on the other side 😉
Read the whole comment, since he’s taken out of context. Still tone deaf none the less, since should known the media would latch on with some others. I do recall walking to school in Ohio in crazy cold weather, so see his point. We is soft. Word.
I remember walking to school in blowing snow, 30 mph winds with -40 wind chill, while fighting off honey badgers.
I agree Bubba. I’ve had to work and walk in colder weather and I haven’t lost a digit.
Well I use to walk to school in my flip flops and t-shirt at -5 degrees.
That’s hard!
Matt Bevin is a piece of trash.
No, leftists are.
Thanks! I love being called trash….means my kind has triggered your kind. 😉
I’m not leftist. 😉
I must have missed something – what’s that got to do with the weather blog?
Agreed Hamlin
Now things make sense….
Your name is what makes sense now hahaha
Was Bevin taken out of context when he blamed picketing teachers for children being abused at home due to no school? 🙂
Bevin is a poor man’s Ernie Fletcher lol…another miserable GOP trainwreck…like TraitorTrashTrump
Awwww. Lack of snow got you down?
Leftists are the traitors. Get it right at least.
Shaak
He mad
VOTE people not with backward A holes!!!!!!
Why? Does he believe in Global Warming?
Apparently several here do 😉
🙂

Yep…..coming back after a short warm up. Going to get interesting. IMO
I recall you saying that already this winter, but you never know until the trend is busted 🙂
Yup
Mr. Bailey, I cannot thank you enough for your comments about the cold weather and how it was a good call for schools to cancel. We appreciate you!
Chris thank you for having this teachers back! Love your updates and I never miss one! Stay warm and be safe to you as well!
Looks like the snow is hanging on to the other side of the fence…
Nearly white out conditions in Rodger’s backyard near Henderson with moderate and blowing snow. Nice band along the river. Rodger in Dodger
Steady snow with at least an inch on the ground in Floyd, Co. IN
Roads deteriorating quick in Louisville.
Proud of our POTUS!
Stay warm.
Wheres the snow(when you read this think of the old lady in the Burger King commercial of the 80s asking wheres the beef???)
🙂
Chris Bailey, You rock!!!!
Glad they cancelled. I remember growing up in NW Ohio and they rarely cancelled school. But they would for cold like this. Guessing because so many walked to school. Or had to wait for the bus. Can only remem bet a few days missing in the years i lived there.
