Good Monday, folks. With Derby Weekend now in our rearview mirror, we are looking out the windshield at warmer air pushing back in. On the horizon, we find another stormy setup ready to take place for the middle and end of the week.
Highs today are in the low and middle 70s in the east, to lower 80s in the west. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny, making for a picture perfect spring day.
Temps Tuesday and Wednesday continue to climb and could reach the middle 80s…
The threat for a few showers and storms will move back in on Tuesday, mainly in the west and north. This sets the stage for rounds of thunderstorms to target the region later Wednesday through Thursday night. This continues to have the look of a severe weather producer from the Mississippi Valley into the Ohio Valley and points south…
Much cooler air is likely to move in behind that, kickstarting a cooler than normal period for much of the central and eastern part of the country. Check out the GFS Ensembles into next week…
The threat for rain and some storms may return as early as this coming weekend or early next week. Are you shocked by that? Don’t answer… It’s rhetorical. 🙂
Have a great day and take care.
I am not saying it want happen as we are due a little “Black Berry” winter before summer unofficially starts…LOL…but we have seen a ton of cold show up time and time again around 10 days out repeatedly since late last fall with it rarely working out. Even if it does go below average for a while, it want be that cold this late in spring as our average highs are nearing 80 by next week.
One more thought and this will rub salt in winter lovers wounds….Check out the teleconnections as all four oscillations are in the right phases for a bad stretch of winter if it were only winter and not May:

PNA is positive while NAO and AO are negative with MJO in phase 8 going into 1….so ironic!
Thanks Terry for posting that information very interesting. I think the change is beginning.
The temperature is 46 degrees with the dew point in the low 40’s in my back yard. Air condition off and some of my windows open. Going to be a beautiful day for outdoor yard work. Oh, my comment on this years Kentucky Derby SLOPPY and UNFAIR call and I will never watch again.
My prediction is if the Ohio Valley is the northern extent of the Severe Weather threat, The Severe Weather will stay Tennessee and south
Well we hope so.
Adding to the above comment I don’t wish anyone in any area to get severe and damaging storms.
By June July August and early September it’ll be typical Summer around here mid to upper 80’s low 90’s humid warm and hot weather.
I’ll take it.
Does anyone else find it ODD that we have had next to no thunderstorms…and we’re already into May…I mean, not even general thunderstorms, much less strong or severe. Heavy rain and lots of it…..yes. But I think I’ve heard thunder only 2 or 3 times this year. I LOVE thunderstorms, just not the kind when you have to worry about the storms killing you.
Unusually boring for spring. It is good from a non-weather geek perspective, including the common Joes out there, but likely a storm chaser and weather enthusiast’s nightmare.
This spring (so far) is kinda like a normal August for boring weather but wetter in my opinion!
MarkLex, glad I’m not the only one noticing it. I thought I was alone
