Good Saturday, everyone. It’s another summer day in the bluegrass state as we kick off our Memorial Day Weekend. The steamy temps will continue through the rest of the big weekend, with some thunderstorms jumping into the mix from time to time.
Temps out there today are generally 85-90 in most areas as humidity levels stay high. A few storms go up this afternoon and evening, with a small risk for severe storms across the north. Here’s today’s Severe Weather Outlook from the SPC…
The setup for Sunday is similar, but storms may become a little more widespread in the afternoon and evening. That could lead to a better threat for a few big boomers, especially across the north. The SPC Severe Weather Outlook for Sunday…
Memorial Day features more of the same with steamy temps and scattered storms.
The similar trend continues until the end of next week. That’s when we see a trough trying to dig in…
That would lead to some cooler air pressing into our neck of the woods. That may be followed up by a deeper trough into the first full week of June…
Here are your tracking tools for the day…
Make it a great day and take care.
Nice weather to start out the month of June.
Keeping fingers cross.
I’d rather see heat.
Me too. I vote for heat.
I vote heat with “normal” hit and miss occasional summer storms. I dont want a drought for farmers but we dont need constant rain in summer either.
Perfect
You get the type of heat we’ve been having so far this month, and you’ll be praying for rain by mid-July.
Don’t say you weren’t told ahead of time.
Brief shower here early this morning increasing the humidity and dew point temperatures. The forecast for showers remains minimal. Low temperature this morning 68 degrees. A cooler weather pattern change in June would be most welcome but I wouldn’t plan on it remaining around too long. It Summer !
Adding to the above, still have not reached that first 90 degree high here at my house, but we are gaining on it as yesterday’s high was 88 degrees, but it felt like 88 or maybe 86 as the dew point temperature was in the mid 60’s with a nice west breeze. Dew points today in my area are forecast to be in the low to mid 60’s and hopefully accompanied by an afternoon breeze. Really not bad of a forecast for the holiday weekend. Farmers however need rain here really soon ! I know they have had too much rain in areas of southwest Indiana and areas along the Ohio River. Well it will rain here sometime it always does I just hope it’s not too late for the corn and soybean crops as well as for private gardens.
We haven’t heard from Bobt lately, but I bet his yard is finally starting to get a few burned, sun scorched spots:)…At least I am for the first time in over a year!
My front and back yard still holding on but really needs a good inch of rain.
Rather ironic about a month ago on how there was too much rain for some and now some need the rain.
My hunch is we still end up with a wet summer if that trough moves back more east like we had back in the winter and all of 2018. Right now, the middle of the country is having the worst flooding since 1929!
Remember Terry, the middle of the country had a dry Summer last year while we had a stormy wet Summer and Winter followed by a cold wet late Spring and now we are dry and they are getting pounded by very severe weather. I know I would rather have it hot and dry than all the severe weather those poor folks are having at this time in the center of the country. Just heard another tornado strike in Missouri. Sad for those folks.
My rain barrel is nearing the bottom in the Metro. Hit and miss T-Storms missed me but I’m not complaining. Had too much rain before this heat period. I’m installing another barrel tomorrow.
Not dry here. No rain needed or wanted at this time.
Cincinnati area.
It’s amazing how the weather can change from extremely wet to extremely dry in such a short time span. It’s all about the position of the Bermuda High which determines the weather types we receive through any given year. El nino and La nina are also factors in determining our weather types. Complicated indeed.
