Good Friday, everyone. It’s an absolutely gorgeous weather day across the Commonwealth, but in true Kentucky fashion, it’s not going to last very long. The setup from late this weekend through next week continues to look pretty stormy. In other words… Blah, Blah, Blah.
Let’s start with the precious present and roll forward. Record lows in the 40s are possible to start us out, with low and middle 70s on the way this afternoon. Skies look awesome.
The dry weather should last through Saturday as temps reach the upper 70s and lower 80s. Humidity levels will be on the increase and that can fire up a stray shower or thunderstorm.
Showers and storms will increase on Sunday as a system drops in from the northwest. This will slow down on top of us through next week, leading to rounds of showers and thunderstorms rolling across Kentucky and the rest of the Ohio Valley. This is a setup that can put down a lot of rain in our region over the next week and change…
The Ensembles over the next 2 weeks show the heart of the rainfall right on top of us…
Temps do get back to normal for the week ahead, but a few troughs look to try and dive back in. You can see this on the CFS as it has a cool look for the final week of June…
Make it a great day and take care.
What’s considered a cool look for the final week of June, lower 80’s?
Sounds about right.
I would say that’s about right.
When will summer get here?
June 21st by the earth’s tilt. As far as our usual Summer weather your guess is as good as mine.
Ya it’s crazy how most of June isn’t summer – still spring.
My kids fail to see the “awesome” part of temps that keep the pool water cold. HURRY UP HEATWAVE
Buy a solar pool cover, my neighbors swim sometimes into Nov.
I’m like Eddy on “Christmas Vacation” ” I can’t swim Clark” LOL
I just hope we don’t have a hot and dry Autumn that last well into December. In my opinion that sucks like the rainy weather we are forecast to get the next seven days. UGH !
My bet is average to below average temps with above average precipitation. You can bet on Spring, Summer, and Fall all meeting that criteria. Then at winter it changes to slightly above average temps with above normal precipitation. Kentucky’s new climate.
Bobt, I just notice on the twelve hour weather loop that the cold fronts are moving further south. Last time I saw this at this time of the year was in 1976. This was the beginning of those severe winters. We may be entering that same weather cycle for this Autumn and Winter ? Something for all the snow lovers out there to look forward to.
45 degrees at my place and looks to be a great day to go fishing but not for swimming.
Mesonet shows Taylor county beat out Harlan at Black Mt…lol. You hit 43 on the mesonet!
WOW Terry, that 43 degrees has got to be a new record ?
Just great. Go someplace else rain train.
I must ask this Question, I can’t get wkyt on direct TV so I have Roku live stream at 4:00 EST but Chris Bailey is not giving his weather forecast at 4:00 news cast on wkyt in Lexington. What live news cast time is he on ?
Not always, but I usually catch him doing the 6:00.
Thanks WM
Even though drought monitor has removed most of Kentucky from the ‘abnormally dry’ shading, a portion of Todd and Logan counties and a fraction of Simpson and Christian counties remain. Most of those areas only saw a half inch or less during last week’s ‘precipathon’. But the Mesonet site at Simpson county recorded 2.89″ in one day last week.
All I can say is YUCK!
The 45 degrees in Lexington this morning was not only a record for the date. For the period of June 14th through August 28th only one morning in history was ever cooler. June 16, 1917 with a low of 43. That’s crazy cool for this late in the season.
