Friday Evening Update

Good evening, folks. We’re rolling into the weekend with low pressure ready to roll across the state. This will bring more rain and the potential for a few flakes by the time we hit Saturday night. Beyond that, its a complicated mess for Thanksgiving week with arctic cold waiting on us to start December.

One more time, in case you guys missed the winter forecast, the Kentucky Weather Podcast has the highlights and I talk about the whys behind the outlook. Give it a listen…

Rain rolls back in tonight and continues into Saturday as low pressure works across eastern Kentucky. Rain may be heavy at times with gusty winds to boot. Temps could reach 60 in the southeast and be in the upper 30s in parts of the north and west. As that cold air crashes in from the northwest, a few flakes or snow showers sneak in here. The best chance is across central and eastern Kentucky.

The NAM continues to show this…

The EURO also sees this the potential…

The next system rolling in early next week will take a track to our west and bring showers and the chance for a few storms in here late Tuesday and Wednesday. The Euro seems to have settled on this scenario…

That model is also spitting out quite a bit of wind…

The Euro is also bringing another big system next weekend and starts it out with winter weather…

The GFS continues to see the possibility of some late Wednesday and early Thanksgiving showers…

The GFS is much faster with next weekend’s storm and gives us a good look at the arctic air and snow chances I’m expecting in early December..

Here is your regional radar to track the increase in rain from the southwest later this evening…

Have a good one and take care.

I think I’ll wait for the Euro to take the stand and provide its testimony for early December….

The winter podcast is nice but it isn’t the same without maps and graphics. I don’t have WKYT unfortunately. Will your winter forecast air again on Thanksgiving Day on WKYT? I’m hoping I can watch it online!
