Good Saturday and welcome to a mild start to December. Thermometer readings will head toward the low 60s over the next few days and that has a lot of winter lovers worried. Never fear… some big changes are brewing. Those changes are showing up pretty strongly on the models with the first push coming next weekend.
Here’s the breakdown:
– Temps today hit 60 in many spots as clouds increase and winds pick up.
– Those clouds will produce a few showers by Sunday with highs in the low 60s. A leftover shower is possible by Monday with more mild temps.
– A strong cold front sweeps across the state Tuesday with rain and gusty winds.
– We will chill it down into the low and mid 40s for highs Wednesday as that shot of chill gets pushed quickly to our east.
– A more powerful cold front arrives by late Friday into Saturday and that appears to be the start of a big change across much of the country. Take a look at what a trough the models are carving out by late next weekend into the following week…
European Ensembles
Canadian Model
It’s interesting to see the Canadian showing several wintry looking systems targeting our region ahead of that deep trough…
Β It will be interesting to see how this transition toward winter all plays out as we get closer. But, all of this looks to fall within the December 7th-14th time frame. Have I mentioned those dates before? π
I’m not going to say too much, but the middle of and end of December has a certain look about it.
Have a great Saturday and take care.
Good morning, Chris. Thank you for the update. It is looking interesting over the next few weeks. Somehow, when its cold, those Christmas decorations seem to look more festive! But for today, I will take the warmer temps and be happy with them. Have a great weekend, everyone! bs GO CATS!!
Two more names for storms that fail to materialize:
Cold and Dry
Warm and Wet
Although I really love December days that are warm enough for a fun dy of hiking, I will be glad to see Winter arrive. Does anyone know what dates the Canadian Model series was showing?
I have to stop looking at this first thing after I wake up. If your eyes are still a little groggy, that Canadian map looks like some kind of killer clown. #cannot unsee #Pennywise weather model
Lol! I had to go back and look at the map, but I do see your point!
Your a BIG TEASE!…..”Wont say much..has certain look to it”
Everybody sing: Dec. 7th -14th
as Phil Robertson would say them maps make me…… Happy, Happy, Happy!!
Chris is thinking extreme look to the models I would guess, speaking of extreme the record low for Dec 1st in Frankfort is 4 degrees in 1976, now that was a winter to remember!
I dont understand what these weather maps means. Could someone tell me? I do remember the winter of 76 so well. I got married Dec 4th 76 and snow was deep and cold. Also the blizzard of 78 was stranded in Danville ky for 3 days.
The Euro shows cold air spilling south to us due to the open path southward, thanks to blocking highs east and west. The second map shows a deep trough digging into our area, suggesting cold and stormy weather coming. The last series of models shows a series of low pressure areas taking favorable snow tracks for us, although I don’t know which days those models are forecasting.
The b.ball cats have to get better!!!!! They aren’t playing well right now
They are playing like a bunch of freshmen π
What we are seeing is the diminished return curve of not having Sophomore or higher like a Jones, Lamb or ESPECIALLY a Miller.
They do not seem to have adequate floor leadership or a sense of team play and that will kill you against good teams. I guess that is obvious.
hit the nail on the head.
Exactly, and this will happen every year going forward without a constant supply of at least a couple of 3-4 year players on the team who have some degree of leadership. Then again, after watching this group for a few games now, I can really see what Sean Wood was talking about. He may have spoken too bluntly but the core of the sentiment was spot on. What remains to be seen is if that can change over time. The capability to improve is the part Woods didn’t truly consider in his comments.
Only in Ky does a weather blog turn into a basketball blog, gotta love it!
The weather right now is as boring as our basketball!
UK is going into SEC play with several losses on their record already. IF, and that’s a big if, we get into NCAA play in March our seeding will be horrible and we’ll go out in the first or second round. From national champions to mediocre at best in 7 months…that’s the way it is when you depend on talent rather than work ethic and you have to reload each year.
As far as weather.. November was somewhat mild and very dry. We’ve seen this a lot in the past, and you almost always get a total reversal at some point during the winter. You can go all summer in a stagnant pattern. But that is very hard to do in winter. This could actually be a good sign for us going toward January.
Couldn’t agree more, Nerlens Noel= Overrated. He looks like a thug.
Having just seen the new film Lincoln yesterday. I have to laugh at how your post comes across.
On a brighter note, I encourage every thinking adult to go out and see it. Not only is it excellent, but there’s a nice Kentucky connection that’s played for a great moment in the film.
