Good Wednesday, everyone and thanks for dropping by KWC. A summer blast of air continues to blow into the bluegrass state. Gusty southwesterly winds have been common over the past few days and will be around again today. This summer pattern is not setting in and will give way to one that becomes stormy over the weekend.
Temps today will be back into the mid and upper 80s. Wind gusts of 20-30mph may be noted for some. You will notice a bit more humidity in the mix and this may spawn a popcorn shower or thunderstorm during the heat of the afternoon.
Humidity levels will really rise by Thursday and that’s when we get into a better shot at a shower or storm. Those storm chances ramp up by Friday. Here’s the NAM…
Showers and storms will increase even more as we head into the weekend. That’s when we get a strong cold front to move into our part of the world. Storms ahead of this front may be on the strong side and they put down some heft rainfall.
Much cooler air will then push in behind the front. Here’s the look from the European Model…
Temps for the first half of next week will run several degrees below normal. Seeing a trend here?
In my last update, I mentioned how the pattern looks active into early June. The two week rainfall forecast from the GFS shows this well…
Notice all that juice across the tropics? Hmmm
Have a great day and take care.
Look at that air on the Euro to our west on that image from Tuesday, June 4th. If that air blows in here, hello heat by say–June 7th or so. If we don’t hit 90 the next couple of days, I bet we do around then.
First round of mosquito bites have arrived, living by a lake in east Frankfort might be bad this year, time to laver up on bug spray 🙁
going be several big hurricane THIS YEAR, active 12 plus storms with 2-3 cat 2 or higher hitting the US.. that my predction.
Big tornado chance in Oklahoma and kansas again today, hopefully if they develope they miss the populated areas this time?
Yea, that’s all they need. Current radar not looking too threatening at the moment.
SPC has the greatest threat for stronger tornadoes to the west of larger cities like Wichita Falls, Oklahoma City, Wichita, and east of Amarillo.
WKU Storm Chasers got some spectacular tornado pics from Kansas yesterday, here and here on Twitter.
I envy those folks. I don’t chase as much any more. Job won’t let me and the family likes to eat.
thanks for all the weather updates you are the best meterologists in this state hope you are at wkyt for many years to come.
