YES FIRST DEFENDER!!!!!
\
Looking good this morning!
Perhaps in the future we will have the ability to pop out a specific radar screen for a larger view?
I’m addicted to radar
A storms coming
Glad to see First Alert Defender on the blog, Chris. But for some reason, I cant get it to load on my screen. What am I doing wrong?
Yeah, All I am seeing is the Accuweather radar. I like it and the defender. But I would prefer to see the defender
You have to hit Layers and select First Alert Defender then it will show
or Radar CONCUS
Boo! Doesn’t work on iPhones!
Knowing Chris Bailey and WKYT, I bet that years from now WKYT will have the first phased array weather radar of any Lexington tv station!

In the meantime, First Alert Defender should give many years of good service. I don’t think even Nashville tv stations have anything like First Alert Defender (but then again Nashville has a National Weather Service radar, where as Lexington is farther away from NWS radars at Louisville and Jackson KY).
BTW, the NWS radars at Wilmington OH and Charleston WV are about to have their dual-pol upgrades (a few KY counties are under jurisdiction of either Wilmington or Charleston). Of course, First Alert Defender is a dual-pol radar.
Wilmington’s upgrade starts August 23:

The Charleston upgrade will commence after Wilmington is finished.
NWS Louisville (radar located at Ft Knox) is currently scheduled for upgrade in late October, followed by NWS Jackson KY. However, there are currently only three radars that are ahead of Louisville inwhich upgrade work has not started yet. In the same way the upgrade of Wilmington will start a few weeks ahead of schedule, it’s possible Louisville and Jackson could be upgraded early as well.
NWS Paducah is scheduled for upgrade in January 2013. Ft Campbell KY and Evansville radars (both used by NWS Paducah) will follow.
All Tennessee radars (Memphis, Nashville, Morristown) were upgraded earlier this year, thus many KY counties near the TN line already have peripheral dual-pol coverage.
LOL. So where is the person now…who was on my case calling me rude for asking for the First Alert Defender on this site??
SHeesh.
Ha!
Thanks so much Chris!!! Now I REALLY don’t have to look anywhere else for good radar and weather coverage.
Chris, I love being able to zoom right in on top of Lakeville Road with the new Defender radar!!!
Lakeville Road in Magoffin County?
pretty good stuff right there Bailey.tx!!!
getting dark here expecting some rain
Here we go!
I use to follow your blog a lot when you were in my home town. I know that you are in KY now but I had to check your blog to see if your predictions are adding up to what our “new” guy is predicting….and it does not! He is predicting 1-2″ and your first call has us in the 1-6″. What would be a realistic amount to look for?
The wind in South Mercer county is bad…
It’s bad here in Woodford as well!!
This is especially depressing since I was just visiting friends in Columbus, IN, where they have better than a foot of snow on the ground and are expecting another 3-5″ tonight.
Happy New a year everyone! 34 and a COLD RAIN here in Nichvegas…nothing to see here
we miss having you here in huntington, you were the best and most accurate weatherman we ever had here!
Anybody else just love the fact that MJ is SO JEALOUS of Chris???
It’s so entertaining!
I listen to you all the time I trust this coverage I do not trust the weather channel they can never make up their mind what is going on.
First Alert Defender radar used to appear for me on this page with the other radar images, but no longer. Did I miss an update that I needed to make, or what happened? Thanks.
