Good Sunday to one and all. After some spring showers, it’s time to get back into another full blown spring temperature pattern across the state. This may set record highs in the week ahead, but it’s also kicking off a very busy weather pattern across our region of the world. There’s no shortage of action showing up as we head into March.
Today’s weather will feature clouds slowly clearing out, leaving a big temperature swing from west to east. The east may stay in the low 60s, while the west flirts with 75. The faster your skies clear, the warmer your back porch thermometer gets.
Monday is the day records may fall. low to mid 70s look like a safe bet with partly sunny skies. Early April temps than hang tough through Friday with just a chance for a scattered thunderstorm or two by mid-week. Additional records may fall on any day featuring enough sunshine.
A potent storm system then develops in the plains states and works toward the Great Lakes and northern Ohio Valley on Friday. This could bring some big time thunderstorms to the region…
Much colder air comes in behind that system and we could even see some snowflakes this weekend.
This storm is likely to setup a classic seasonal battle between spring and winter. The seasonal transition toward spring will be met with Old Man Winter firing deep cold shots into the Midwest and plains states. Kentucky may go back and forth between the two and that spells some busy times…
Big storm systems will fire up in the battle zone and that can bring lots of different conditions our way, based on each individual storm track. Severe weather and snow chances are there, depending on where each system goes. One thing is for sure, we are in the line of fire for heavy amounts of precipitation over the next few weeks. The European Ensembles precipitation show that flow right out of the western Gulf of Mexico…
I will update things later today. Enjoy your Sunday and take care.
Another cold Reign episode coming at us for the next several weeks.
If there’s going to be a battle I know who I am laying my money on.
Sounds good, we’ve not had a good soaking rain in southeast Ky since the third week of January. Looking forward to some storms here.. Hopefully.
Ummmm, NO. We certainly do not by any stretch of the imagination need soaking rains at this point…
Ummm, Yes we do. The Knott co mesonet for instance has recorded a total of 0.75 the last 26 days. Other areas even less. The forest fire situation will be out of control again if this pattern persists..
Just because Knott Co. needs it does not mean all need it.
I see one cool day showing up next Sat, but that is about it and I think spring temps will mostly win in the coming weeks.
Hopefully severe weather season won’t be terrible with all the mild temperatures we have had.
I am really enjoying these forecasts. I’m not a fan of snow and ice!
I just saw that Kyrie Irving thinks our chances of having any more winter weather are pretty flat going forward.
(cheer up Hamlin)
Bahaha that Duke education shines through for Kyrie indeed.
Perfect Sunday weather as I enjoy my stogie.
Got my natural gas bill yesterday and according to it the average temp for the last 30 days was 8 degrees warmer than this time last year.. That is pretty significant.
Cloud cover has kept the temps down here in southern part of state. Maybe those move out and we get a little warmer.
clouds hanging tough in frankfort, low 50s is it so far, 60s will be a long shot today
Anyone know the timing of friday’s system moving through? Will it be during the day or into the night? Will it hit and be over in an hour, or rain for a few hours? I have an event planned for friday so would like to know.
Winter = DONE
All those “winter looking maps” have left us very disappointed this season. No reason to believe they’ll be correct now. Rodger is ready for “next week” and “next weekend” to be May! Rodger in Dodger
My prediction is for the Big Blue H east of Florida to win any and all battles for our area. It is undefeated this season no reason to think it will lose now. I actually hope Winter doesn’t reappear . I am over it this year, ready to move.
Clearing line almost over top of my house here in Valley Station, now that the sun has just set. Actually I can’t even see the sun as the clearing has been working in from east to west. 54 degrees presently after a high of about 58 at my house.
