Good Wednesday, everyone. This incredible stretch of bitterly cold temps is about to finally ease up as we head into the coming days. Temps will slowly start to moderate later this week into the coming weekend, but there are growing signs of a very active pattern taking shape.
Let’s start with today and roll forward.
Temps this morning range from a little below zero to a little above, depending on the clouds. The clouds did manage to move in overnight, actually raising our temps some, keeping things from getting totally out of hand. Wind chills will be much colder. Highs this afternoon are back in the teens for many area.
Areas of light snow and flurries will also be possible, with light accumulations trying to show up from time to time…
Thursday starts with ANOTHER day in the single digits, and ends with temps in the upper 20s to low 30s.
Friday looks good as we start to melt some snow with temps going well above freezing, under a sunny sky.
Saturday will feature temps making a run at 50 with a shower or two possible. The best chance for showers comes later Sunday as a cold front marches in from the west. Temps ahead of this have a chance to get deep into the 50s and challenge 60, then come crashing back down.
The models are suggesting the possibility of rain ending as snow later Monday…
Seasonally cold temps follow that up for much of next week, in a pattern that should be looking milder than it is. It’s also a pattern that may feature an active storm track working across the country…
I will update things later today. Have a good one and take care.
Only made it down to 8 so far in Harlan through 5:45 but can still drop a little by day break. The pitiful amount of snow cover down here coupled with cloud cover is actually keeping our temps a bit warmer than most of the state.
light snow in hopkinsville.. getting a dusting on the roads that were cleared..
Seasonal refers to events, conditions or activities taking place in a particular season.
Barbecues and bug spray are seasonal items.
Seasonable means normal for the time of year. It is not a synonym for mild.
The weather is seasonable for January.
Thanks Snow!
I think Chris knows what he’s talking about.
Wow, you are a bigger jerk than Schroeder is Snow! Thanks!
Except Schroeder isn’t a jerk, but lil Ralphie surely is with all your cutesy snide “thanks” remarks…
Seriously, you and one other poster here have absolutely nothing to say or add to the conversation unless you are downing something someone says or downing someone directly…time to get a life already an grow up…
*Sniff Sniff* Snowflake.
Bottomed out at -11 in Madison around 11 last night, much lower than surrounding sites… strange. I wonder about the mesonet site …
Thanks Chris, Temperatures this morning around six degrees. We are snowbound out here in the hills. Looking forward to the milder temperatures.
If you love salt covered cars, shoveling snow, and old people confined to there homes with high utility bills this weather has been just what the doctor order. Ok, I’ve had my snow fix for the year. I want to here the spring birds singing and see the redbud trees blooming. Blowing in a 70 degree wind. That’s just what I want. You may want something different.
I want to hear.
“Spring in February is worth nothing.” Old Farmers Almanac
10 degrees here in my part of Knott County.
Hoping for good sunny 50s hereon out. But the cfs weeklies, which in my experience predict nothing but blowtorch after blowtorch, are showing a colder than average look in mid to late Feb. I doubt we are done with winter, or even close to it.
The clouds became a warm blanky. Richmond was expected in the -2 range, but about 8 degrees. Ten degree difference FTW!
To be honest, once it gets below 10, it doesn’t matter anymore. 😉
Hmm, that’s interesting set up for next week.
Spring like storms might kick in a tad early.
That doesn’t looked like a spring like storms on the map to me. Maybe a heavy wet snow storms. Winter isn’t over folks, some people had winter was over prior the last two snow events happen. Like Yoga Bara used to say it isn’t over until it’s over.
I totally agree winter lover I remember back a few weeks ago you said that everyone here said that winter is over ” will eat their words.” Well that is what I am having for lunch. LOL.
Maybe a slushy mix storm. I am banking on warm air, but will not be any less entertained by the model cherry picks if a systems does get out-looked 🙂
The snow has been coming down for the last hour or more and you know every flake is sticking…..the thing is, nothing is showing on radar and it’s coming down enough that it should be showing something… a speck maybe? I dunno.
Spot on Mark! It has been tripping me out the last hour. I have steady light to occasionally moderate snow in Covington. Visibility below a mile at times. Salted roads are now covered in daylight, and they weren’t covered at sunrise. HOW DOES THE RADAR NOT SEE ANY OF THIS??? Then other days it will show moderate colors and no precip will be falling?!?!?
Happens often. It’s just really low moisture content. Also if you are at elevation and the radar is in a valley that can cause issues because of the beam angle. The other extreme is snirga
Snirga…not a word I hear often. Good one!
Opposite of virga. Nice.
Flurries all night in Covington have become a steady light to moderate snow that is somehow not showing on radar. Accumulating snow started around 8am. Already about a quarter inch and the salted roads are mostly covered in my neighborhood.
Steady light to moderate snow in Lexington for well over an hour so far. Everything that we cleared yesterday is now covered again. Interesting to see that nothing is showing up on radar. How long might this continue?
Same thing in Cincinnati! If it does this several hours I will have a new inch or so of snow.
Same in Louisville as well…just one tenth so far, though.
My bold prediction….at least a third of the state is going to get a big wet snowstorm between now and March 17th. Meaning, at least 6 inches, with some places pushing a foot. Yep, you heard it here first.
You sure know how to make a girl smile. #lovesnow
I’ve been told that lol #ladiesman 😛
Get a room!!!
That, or spring-like storms. I am putting dibs on one mainly mix event and two sprint like storms through March.
Surprised at the difference the clouds made last night. When I took the dog outside around 8:30 it was already down to -3. When had to take her out again around 1am the temperature had risen to a balmy 8 degrees.
Meant to add that at 8:30 had clear skies and cloudy when I took her out at 1am.
Low of 10 here in my neck of knott county last night
It has gone back to just flurries in Covington now.
As of now, it is 2 degrees in Dorton of Pike County.
We have 5 inches of snow and it is 9 degrees in Clay county, with wind chill of -2. Flurries still flying around.
I’m still waiting on an old school snow thumping!! Loving this snow!
