Good Wednesday, everyone. Rounds of showers and thunderstorms are rumbling across the bluegrass state today, and some could be strong or severe. It’s definitely a day to keep a close eye on the weather situation.
Here’s a breakdown of what to expect:
- Rounds of storms sweep in from the west and northeast
- Damaging winds and large hail are the usual suspects to watch out for
- With so much moisture in the air today, any storm that goes up can dump a tremendous amount of rain. Local flash flooding is a possibility
- Additional storms can flare up later Thursday and some of those could be strong to severe
I have you all set to do some middle of the week storm tracking…
Today’s risk area
Have a great day and take care.
Heat index at 101 in Union county. Ouch.
Seems we have had relatively little in the way of heatwaves the last few years. The streak of course has to end sooner or later.
About three or four years ago, a remote station in southern Indiana recorded a 124 heat index! Triple ouch, indeed dangerous. If the sensors were off kilter, they weren’t by much as I recall places like Evansville and Owensboro were near the 120 degree range.
NWS Paducah reported a while ago that thunderstorm winds in Hickman County KY may be up to 80 mph which is well above severe limits (which is 50 kts or just under 60 mph). Stay safe everyone!
Also reports of golf ball size hail.
The tornado threat for KY and TN is quite low if not zero.
