Watched the rotation come across the Ohio river and dissipate. It re-formed over me at Taylor Blvd and 264. I saw it dip at Churchill Downs. Textbook rotation. Tried to chase on 264 but the traffic stopped. It popped up out of nowhere!
This is unbelievable. No watches, no warnings, no MESO from SPC, nothing from anybody except local Louisville media, as reported here.
Yes.. TEXTBOOK hook echos on these storms. Tornadoes LIKELY still on the ground. I’ve seen pics of serious damage at Churchill Downs already. This is no joke…I hope people in northeast Jefferson Co. take shelter!
HOLY SMOKE! I saw TWO huge spin-ups of a meso/tornado form right near my house. A phenomenal evening. Nothing seems to have touched down from it this far east (St. Matthews / Eastern Jefferson Co) ..no damage reported ..let’s pray it stays that way. These things are forming left and right tonight!
Pardon my language, but what the he** is SPC doing?? Are they watching a movie in the office or something??
Couldnt agree more!!!
It’s amazing that when we are under a high risk PDS, a few little spin ups occur. When there is no watch, a train of brief tornadoes appears. Ma Nature showing her ugly side.
Ummm…NWS in L’ville has been throwing up Warnings like crazy. On the other hand, SPC in Oklahoma is having margarita night or something.
They are all watching “The Voice” on NBC, which is apparently the same thing WLEX is doing. 36 and 27 have broken in at this point, but not 18.
the weather channel is staying on reg pshow programs and not going live on this. tht is craxy why have a weather channel if they cant give out info while the tornado are touching down.
i was going to ask this in my last post but was so upset with the weather channel i forgot to ask lol will any of these storms make it to my area flatwoods/ashland area
the tornado warnings have been there.
As for the Mesoscale Discussion, there have been one or two during the day, although I’m not sure if they mentioned the possibility of tornadic spin-ups.
Certainly no Watch, however.
what direction are these storms headed? do people in franklin county and fayette county need to have a heads up? is this headed our way?
Water rescue in eastern Louisville so flash flooding also a problem.
Pretty bad damage reported near/at Churchill Downs. I hope people and horses are okay.
Spent the past hour on the phone with my best friend who was in her basement taking cover in Louisville. What a crazy night for everyone there! I hope that everyone is safe!
Chris do you think the spc will issue a severe t-storm watch/ tornado watch shortly for the path of this line?
Well, the SPC has reached an fail of EPIC proportions. They could have AT LEAST issued a mesoscale discussion for our area, and possibly at least a severe t-storm watch. But no, they literally issue sit and watch as thousands of people are put in danger of life, property, etc. I give enormous credit to the NWS for issuing tornadoes in a timely manner.
Yes, this is exactly what meso discussions are for. And we get nothing. Heck, LMK didn’t even update the AFD. We literally got NOTHING except the local TV affiliates. It’s sad…real sad…people who say “we didn’t know it was coming” almost have an honest excuse tonight.
Yeah really. And the damage is actually pretty bad.
Everyone currently on the clock at the SPC should be fired….EPIC FAIL ON ALL LEVELS OF THE SPC. Typical govt organization.. At least LMK got warnings out in time. Amazing to me not a single watch issued for any area around here…
I can’t recall a single more enormous failure on behalf of SPC. The storms were beasts, unleashed for hours and not a mention.
This is the one of the moist insightful and ironic things I have read all day. Interesting obsrvation!
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/md/md1359.htmlhttp://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/md/md1362.html They were aware just didn’t issue any watches for some reason.
Tornado hit my parents’ house tonight, along with the rest of the area surrounding their house in J-town located in Jefferson county. Lots of damage. Saw firsthand tonight how fast things happen. Warning came out that a tornado was possible around J-town. Called my parents’ immediately. Heard a scream and the phone went blank. Turns out my parents’ saw the damn thing and didn’t have time to react. That’s wild.
I don’t understand why the Lexingotn news stations would have the need to break in for a situtation to the northwest of us. It posed no threat coming this way and would be fine to just be covered in the general 11pm news.
